About the Project

My MESBG table has been great, but I've always felt that it could use something to fill a gap(other than some ground cover, which is something I'll need to sort out at some point too). Someone on the Australian MESBG facebook group posted a photo of at huge terrain piece he'd just finished printing out, he is a fellow Lothlorien player and found this beaut Elf Lord's manor or something like that. Or I can probably just add a link to it here. https://www.myminifactory.com/object/3d-print-dark-realms-hidden-forest-realm-lord-s-hall-121440 The plan is to try and get to up to the level the rest of the tables at over the weekend. A tough ask, but I'm hoping to at least get the base colours done.

I’ve decided that the trees are too dark, so I’ve gloss varnished it, so I can mask it up to hit the trees with some lighter browns. This I had to do outside, because the damn thing doesn’t fit in the spray booth. First layer was all in one piece. Second layer I broke it down and did as much as I could. I’m hoping next weekend to get the masking done, and the trees lightened in colour.

This only getting to work on it on weekends is making this an incredibly slow project, and damn it I missed talking some photos, but I have made progress. A light wood colour(71.077) was added around edges and such, two different types of mushrooms were coloured(Flesh Tearers Red, and Gryph-hound Orange), and then some gold detailing(Liquid Gold 791).

After all that work, last weekend I basically spent the entire weekend tiding up the paint work, and then going back over all the mushrooms, making them Grey again, so colours will work on them. This project was definitely a lot more than I thought.

Still with the spray cans, I start colours. A Grey for the stone work, and the roofs(which will be done Green to match the other things on the table).
Firstly I used a dark Grey, which I thought was too dark, and in the ten minutes I had to wait for it to be touch dry, I went back to the hardware store and got a much lighter Grey. I let that get to touch dry, and then hit as much of the wood of the trees with the Brown.

I start off assembling some of the stuff, so it’ll be quicker to paint, Starting with the base layer, half of it was single pieces, the other half was all broken down to two pieces. So lets go.

The creator, kindly cut it up into so many pieces to make it easier for people to print it, so I’m starting to piece some of it together, to make it easier to paint.
This is it not glued or anything, just the top and bottom half pegged together with the handy printed pins, and corresponding holes.
