Spring Cleaning Hobby Challenge: Ambush on the River Horse Knight

About the Project
A group of friends decided to do a Hobby "Secret Santa". I had this River Horse Knight, a limited edition mini from a Kickstarter from about 10 years ago, and I think it would make the perfect project. The miniature itself had been stashed away for ages, just because I have never had a project that I could squeeze a knight riding a baby hippo. Well, now I do!

Spring Cleaning Hobby Challenge: Ambush on the River Horse Knight
A group of friends decided to do a Hobby “Secret Santa”. I had this River Horse Knight, a limited edition mini from a Kickstarter from about 10 years ago, and I think it would make the perfect project.
The miniature itself had been stashed away for ages, just because I have never had a project that I could squeeze a knight riding a baby hippo. Well, now I do!
Picked up the original parts (mount and knight), a shield from Hasslefree and a base I made a few years back.
The base I had was ok, but I wanted some flair for the project. Plus, I needed something to justify the rearing up pose on the hippo mount.
I remembered I had these Tiik Warriors from Reaper, and being the mount a hippo, it made sense that it would hang around the water, a perfect place for an ambush.
Now, I want the base to add to the scene… so I decided to use some resin water, and after some tests, added some vegetation details and glow effects to the monster.
Next up, I had to paint the hippo and knight. I decided to do a simple paintjob on the rider, to bring the eye to the hippo face. There is a faint pinkish underbrush on the hippo’s nose and joints that does not show well on the pictures, but looks lovely IRL
Pretty happy with the end result. MAYBE the hippo could have been a bit darker, but IRL the grey had some nice warm undertones that I really enjoyed and I was afraid to cover it.
