About the Project
With the continuation of the lockdown and this time "working" from home with next to nothing to do, it was about time I got on with some hobby. Yes, I have unfinished projects, so I thought the best idea would be to start a new army... I know, right!? So here it is, from the very start, my new Space Marine army. Stop yawning at the back!

This Project is Active
I'm Back.
Way back in the spring I decided to jump on the Spring Clean Challenge and get some old Space Marines repainted. After stripping the relevant victims I was raring to go.
Then after only base coating the sergeant my motivation took a massive dip and everything got abandoned. Thankfully I’ve now managed to find my interest again after friends of the family got absorbed in the hobby. So, for now I’ve managed to finish a small unit of classic marines from the Spring Clean Challenge and the Captain from the Indomitus box.
Right now I’m going through the four characters from Gloomhaven: Jaws of the Lion with some quick paint jobs, which I intend to make a small project on. Then it’s back here with the Chaplain from the Indomitus box.
Another HQ Choice
I’ve been summoned back to work for Monday, so it appears I chose to start this project a little late. Considering I’m a slow painter, the frequency of completed work was never going to be off the charts. Despite this I’ll still carry on when I get the chance.
Today I finished the Lieutenant in Phobos armour found in the Vanguard set. It was getting a little untidy along the way and ended up with a little too much Matt varnish (I’ll address this later), but for now I’ll call it finished.
Space Wizaaard!
Due to the contents of the Indomitus box, the stealthy nature of a Raven Guard successor chapter isn’t going to be 100% sneaky backstabbers. But, at the very least, in this case my Librarian can be.
I didn’t want go with the urban camo scheme, as along with the dulled down metallic armour it would be way too much grey. So I looked at my favourite WW2 infantry division, the 6th Airborne and their Denison Smock. Not wanting the brush stroke pattern I looked up a suitable pattern to use and made a test square.
Only requiring 3 colours, it wouldn’t be too daunting.
- Khaki Grey (Vallejo)- Basecoat
- US Dark Green (Vallejo)
- German Camo Medium Brown (Vallejo)
Happy with the result, it was time to crack on. Took longer than intended, but at least I have something done and the army officially started.
Giving myself a kick up the arse!
Without realising, August was the last time I picked up a hobby knife or paint brush, despite buying models, paints and accessories in abundance since. Now having some extra spare time, things have to change.
I’ve been drawn to all new Astartes stuff, and after forking out for the Indomitus box, a Vanguard Start Collecting box and a Librarian in Phobos armour, I’m eager to get started. For a while I’ve had my heart set on a Raven Guard army, but not so keen on painting the black armour, so I settled for Knights of the Raven. So without delay I’ve dug out a spare Intercessor and knocked up a test paint job which I think has turned out quite well.
I didn’t want the armour to be too shiny (they’re meant to be space ninjas after all) so I put Basilicanum Grey over a Leadbelcher primer with a Stormhost Silver highlight, they might look a bit dull, but that’s what I was looking for.
I’m going to tackle something with a cloak next, as I’ve got my favourite WW2 colour scheme to try, if it works all will be revealed in the next entry.
