Primed and ready
Took advantage of a warm day to get these primed. Did a bit of base coating before I took this. Now to get stuck in property.
Dust
An initial shot of Dust. These are turning out to be fun to paint. Better pics and a Lloyd shot to follow once I finish the base.
Axl
Another fun one to paint. I’m experimenting with some dark lining to lend these a bit more of a comic feel.
Eko
Another fun one to paint. I clearly really enjoy cute, cartoony characters. I just hope I like the game as the last couple games I painted up just because I liked the characters were not a big enough hit to keep in my collection.
mom not sure whether I should play games before I paint them. It might mean I paint fewer minis that I like but keep a larger share of the games I paint. I suspect I’ll keep going as I am now—painting before I play. I really like playing painted games and I also enjoy sharing what I’ve painted with others.
Better pics (I think)
These were way underexposed when I first took them. I figured out that I had set the camera for the dark background and floor. I would have thought that would have meant these would have been overexposed but I was very wrong.
I also included a pic of the busts. These are really quite small but they still have a good bit of detail.
I was going to do some work on the bases (if you look close you’ll see that I had already added sand to Dust’s base) but I decided to keep things simple. I also really don’t like how, unless I completely rebase a mini, their feet always get slightly eaten up by/sunk into whatever I’m using.
All told, I’m pretty happy with how these turned out. Only a few more to go which, at my pace, may take some time.
Caiman
I really like this guy. In fact, he and Eko are probably the two minis that caused me to jump in on the game. He was fun to paint and I think he came out quite nicely.
I included a pic with his bust to give a sense of scale for them.
Sagoshi
Nearly there. This is the last of the player characters. He is sometimes blue and sometimes green in the concept art so I had fun shading him from green to blue. Until painted I thought his companion bug on his head just looked like a stupid hat. Now I think he just looks a little dumb but much less like a hat.
I had an odd thing happen with my varnish. I almost always use the Army Painter Matte rattle can and bave had really good luck with it. On Sagoshi’s just, however, when I came back this morning after sealing it yesterday, the back of his bust was white. And no, I did not do what I have done in the past and mistake my white primer for the varnish. It wasn’t a complete white but I definitely had to touch things back up. If any of you out there have had a similar experience or know what might have caused that, please let me know.
Last but not least…
I thought I was all done only to find the last token in the box. Glad I noticed it.
All told these were really nice to paint. Minimal mold lines, nice detail, fun sculpts. Next step is probably a solo game of this.
To the table!
Got this to the table today and boy did I forget to take a picture.
It’s a sprawling table hog even with two players but it is a beautiful sprawling table hog.
I loved the gameplay and I think it’ll stay in my collection—even though it’s certainly not something I’ll bring out for everyone. It’s a really tight, constrained game. You only get 14 actions over the course of a game so you have to think hard to make each one count.
Long story short: it’s a medium to heavy euro with gorgeous art and components.
