About the Project

It looks like a lot of people will be locked down through November. Why not design a board/card/tabletop game with all that spare time? I'm going to give it a shot. Basically, the idea is nanowrimo but instead of suffering through a month of writing to end up with an unfinished novel, you homebrew some rules (something new, or a twist/extension/new scenario for an existing game), share it with like-minded people for feedback, and at the end even if you haven't created a new game, you've had some fun. I'm hesitating between 2 ideas: A) working title "Princess-grave" because I have a daughter and nieces and Disney has already warped their young minds... But why not use that to get them into tabletop gaming as Elsa/Mulan/Cinderella and Co battle it out through the ruins of a fantastical kingdom in search of... plot lines that are a little less sexist. B) "The Emu War" a simple solo historical wargame recreating the Australian campaign against emus (it really happened, look it up) - you control the Australian troops against the AI (avian intelligence) controlled Emu horde. How many can you kill before they run off? Stay safe and sane and happy gaming! Pat

Angry birdsAngry birds

#GLOGADEMON 1 week in. Spent most of the last few days busy with work/family/doomscrolling US news… But did manage to get some research done, sketching studies of angry birds. I’ve discovered there are minis of Australians with Lewis guns for bolt action, but haven’t found anyone making minis for an emu horde… So I figure I should include some print-at-home emu standees to use on the tabletop. So, I’ll need to be able to draw ’em!

Been doing some reading on the historical facts of the campaign, to add some detail to the fluff and flavour text. Also went searching for some contemporary news reel footage, and found it on YouTube - it's an interesting piece of wartime propaganda ... Then fell down the rabbit-hole of related videos. Seems a lot of people have had the idea of making a spoof war film on the subject :) Been doing some reading on the historical facts of the campaign, to add some detail to the fluff and flavour text. Glogademon Day 1 Emu War

The pitch: Emu War – a solo historical wargame. You control the Australian forces in the 1932 campaign against the Emu horde.

What you’ll need: standard six sided dice, a tape measure, some tokens (or miniatures if you have them)
