A bit of a gap
So work has been hectic and I haven’t really felt like lifting my brush up and getting on with the Batman miniatures this month. I have managed to get finished Black Mask, Solomon Grundy and 4 of the thugs with crowbars.
The madmen are in charge
Next up I elected to paint tweedledum and tweedledee along with the crazy inmates, all from the Arkham Asslyum set.
I wanted to go with the two shade yellow for the shirt and bow-ties so I decided that I would have a try with the Scale75 Instant Colours Range. These are much more glaze like than the Contrast paints from GW and don’t provide the coverage in one coat, so two coats it was. SIN09 Estus Yellow for the shirt and then SIN08 Full Healing for the bowtie. Whilst I was painting with these I decided to add some red to get the orange colour for the trouses of the inmates. The rest of the colours are the standard Contrast paints from GW.
Two-Faced
Well it’s been over a month since I last posted, what happened to July. The start of the summer holidays and you’d think I could get more done. Well I did a lot of painting, but it was with a much bigger brush and in 1:1 scale. Still back to painting finally and I quickly finished off the next 6 Batman figures, including Two-Face and Ra’s Al Ghul.
I’m going to get this lot finished soon I promise.
Bane of life
I managed to crack on with painting two Banes and Mr Bloom’s Gang. I tried to give the juiced up Bane some green veins and added some Green Tone to the skin (not that it has shown up too well). For the flesh on the gang members I thinned some Reikland Flesh Shade to try to give a paler flesh colour than normal.
PPP Pickup a Penguin
Penguin and his gang – or how many ways can you paint black! The majority of the black is GW Contrast Black Templar with Contrast Medium is a 3:1 mix. Some is straight Black Templar and then there is some Vallejo German Grey in the mix. The nets have a drybrush of AP Uniform Grey and the rest of the blacks a drybrush of Vallejo Sky Grey and well as the top of the nets.
Have you ever danced with the devil by the pale moonlight?
A varient of that jester of crime Mr Joe is the Joker from the New 52 line of comics where he was wearing his own cut-off face, I should have gone for a whiter look. His gang is behind him, along with Ratcatcher another character from the New 52.
The purple is Royal Purple with a wash of Purple Tone, highlights of a mix of white and purple, then a light dry drush of Menoth White highlight.
I'm not mad at all! I'm just differently sane!!
I cracked on with the Joker adn his gang last weekend. So today I present to you the Joker in his more traditional purple suite, along with his gang of gun armed henchmen. Alongside this group of figures I present to you Tusk as well. The biggest challenge of this lot was all of that white on tusk, I did research on YouTube for the best way to paint white and then adapted my own plan. The primer used was AP Skeleton Bone, I then drybrushed a mix of Skeleton Bone and Matt White (both AP) addind a bit more white to each drybrush layer. I’m happy with how it came out, but now notice that the orange of the shirt slipped onto the white jacket (annoying).
Ruling Gotham from a shadowed perch, behind granite and lime
A few more villians and I’m nearly at 100% painted. Some members of the Court of Owls this time, I went with a basic colour scheme for them, although the sheath for the Katana is red so it gives some colour on the back. I used Black Templar Contrast and Apothecary White Contrast over a Halfords White Primer, with a light drybrush of sky grey on the black. Doc Death is Contrast Skeleton Brown over AP Skeleton Bone primer. Death Sroke at the fron was just contrast yellow and black with a dry brush of P3 Menoth White Base.
There’s tea for two, we can still be friends.
Back on this project to try and finish it before the end of the year, so six more figures completed.
Mad Hatter/Jervis Tetch
Killer Moth
6 Thugs with shotguns
Nothing too special here, the yellow of Mad Hatter’s waistcoat is a build up of the Scale 75 Instant Paints, everything else if GW contrast paints.
6 more to go, to finish the whole batch off.
That's all folks.
Well that’s it for my Season 1 & 2 purchase of Batman Gotham City Chronicles. All of the figures that I purchased are painted and put away ready to be played with (if only Covid hadn’t got in the way!). Now I didn’t purchase all the figrues that were released with Season 2, but with Season 3 on its way I may get the chance to add more to it, but I’ll start a new project for that.
I tried painting Deadshot from a white primer with the Scale 75 Instant Colours Yellow, which came out really bright on the white background. The rest of the colours are GW Contrast paints.
