About the Project
In a turnabout from the norm of me sending out packages I received a delivery from Blinky465. In it there was a small band of Amazons he had printed.

Hitting up the contrast paint
Here is the small band of Amazons that Blinky shot to me from far away as he toils with his own Hoard of Shame (adding to mine in the process). Since he had primed them with GW Wraithbone I thought that the one contrast paint I have, Darkoath Brown, deserved a second chance after I tried it on another figure. Using a beat up brush I coated the bare skin with a couple coats and was surprised with the results. It seems that the paint pools in the same manner as GW shades and has about the same consistency as one that’s been left to sit for a long while. I can say that from the container of Cassandora Yellow among my paints. Funny enough it also seems to leave a slight tide line when it dries so that might be a step in the right direction of my thinking.
I’m learning quite a bit from my big jungle project at the moment and I’ll use that knowledge for the immediate future regarding these figures. Considering the colors I think I might just run the same as they are quite punchy. I’ll dig into more Azter/Mayan pictograms and written records for inspiration.
Artwork for thought
Looking into Aztecs and some art to help with a paint scheme I’ve settled on some more colors for the shields and some detail for the fabric of their loincloths. Looking at the macuahuitl they all carry I think there should also be some highlighting done to then as well to draw the eye. Overall its something to just put pictures up and tease out before more photos pop up.. like the following.
VMC Turquoise (966) – armor
VMC Pale Sand (70.837) – cloth
VMC Medium Flesh (70.860) – chest strap/foot wraps/rope/shield edges/thigh jewelry
VMA Electric Blue (72.723) – shield/feathers
RMS Midnight Blue (09019) – hair
Strike a pose! Strike your foes!
Since last I posted the loincloths have been given a detail of stripes airbrushed in VMA Gory Red (72.71) Using the same red bands on the hair and thighs were given definition. I added eyes that bring interest to the faces. There’ve been a few washes of Reikland Fleshshade and Nuln Oil to separate elements on the figures. The hair, obsisian edges of the macuahuitl and the designs on the shields have been given Nuln Oil washes on underlying lighter colors. The armor was covered with a P3 Blue ink to pull up the detail of the plates. The feathers of the shields were done in a series of VMA Electric Blue (72.723) brushed with the P3 blue ink, Gory Red and then Pale Sand used earlier. The small ties of the macuahuitl, despite issues with the printing, have been given touches of Electric Blue to make the weapons keep relevant to the paint scheme. I’ve got more to do in detail and highlight before basing and this just makes me feel better to see it come together.
Ollie Ollie Amazons free!!!
Done! I managed to get the details done with minimal cleanup and the base was easy to take care of in adding ferns to the Litko base. The final pictures are definitely washed out but the project pic I think I did much better in shielding the figures. All in all it makes me want to get my hands on my order from Titan Forge all the sooner (whenever Spain opens up their postal service again).
