Next it’s the eminently unquotable Black DwarfNext it’s the eminently unquotable Black Dwarf

Now in a rare and bizarre moment of creativity I decided the for some unfathomable reason I wanted to have the red and blue sash hanging from his belt as per the film version of him.

So out came the brown stuff, some palette paper and a scalpel. Basically rolled out a strip, cut it down (keep your blade wet) and stuck it on.

Finally a base today, Matt coat and done. The sash looks a little ropey but happy enough to leave it on. I could always come back and replace it later but for now, we move on!

“You call ME, boy? I will unfurl one thousand years of Kree justice on Xandar and burn it to its core! Then, Thanos, I'm coming for you!”

He kill planets but can’t win a dance off, its Ronan the Accuser! He kill planets but can’t win a dance off, its Ronan the Accuser!

Although the box art Is nice for Ronan  I prefer his on screen look and whilst the model isn’t a direct sculpt there is enough similarity to recreate his colour scheme. So that’s what I’m going to attempt!

So mainly black then!!So mainly black then!!

Forgot to add the drybrush step but it is a simple brain matter beige. FYI sometimes on black the drybrush can get to heavy. If this happens I find a quick drybrush with the base colour Over any problem area will tone it down.

Quick base tidy and a Matt coat and hand done. FYI I tried to get a flow effect by slightly overbrushing the purple ink from the recesses. Top tip, don’t bother, looks rubbish so I just painted over with silver and walked away!

I want her skin tone to be closer to the movie than the box art so the face has a 1/4 blue tone / medium where as the hair is 4/1 blue tone / medium

After a Matt coat she’s ready to cause havoc with her other half!

He’s so cool he flies standing up! It’s Ebony MawHe’s so cool he flies standing up! It’s Ebony Maw

So far so good, unfortunately it goes a little south from here. The tabard stripe down the middle caused me no end of grief. I wish now I’d gone with my initial feeling and avoided bloody yellow!! Crucially I started having doubts and went to heavy with the wash and it dried to heavy. My mantra is always use medium, I ignored it at my peril and ended up having to go back in to try and calm it down but have to say I’m really disappointed in how it’s finished up. I think the best thing to do now is get it finished, leave it and come back to him at another time and try to correct him!!

Drybrush step, photos may go a little off as I kept going over and over bits trying to save them!Drybrush step, photos may go a little off as I kept going over and over bits trying to save them!

Matt coat and base tidy and he’s finished, for now…

After a brief sojourn it’s back to the world of Marvel Crisis Protocol and first up, its the guy who spent most of the Infinity War rofl stomping Vision, it’s Corvus GlaiveAfter a brief sojourn it’s back to the world of Marvel Crisis Protocol and first up, its the guy who spent most of the Infinity War rofl stomping Vision, it’s Corvus Glaive

just realised the body doesn’t quite stand out enough from the cloak so decided to go in with a blue ink to give it a subtle variation

“Give up the stone and she lives”

In a shocking twist I’ve decided that brain matter beige may be to stark for the cloak so decided to do a uniform grey dry brush followed by an ash grey dry brush. I then went with a brain matter beige just on the highest points of the cloak and the staff. I then went in and touched up the gold where it had been dulled with the grey.

Oops forgot the eyes!Oops forgot the eyes!

Followed up with a 50/50 dark tone / medium wash, Matt coat And a gloss varnish on the black panels. He is now ready to kick Vision in all over again!

Now on the box art she’s painted in her comic book style and I have had enough friends recently cursing and swearing about painting white armour on storm troopers that I definitely wanted to avoid that route. Besides I prefer her onscreen look so I’m going to go for a more blue / black theme as per below

“I am going to die surrounded by the biggest idiots in the galaxy.”!

Apologies, due to the onset af drunkenness I forgot the drybrush shot, you know the drill by now!

Firstly, a f#@k up! i was toying with the idea a of painting the main body in yellow and in a weird burst of curiousity i mixed yellow with a silver to see if it would give a metallic finish. Tip for you all, it doesnt, just a strange greeny yellow so scrapped that idea and went back to gold!Firstly, a f#@k up! i was toying with the idea a of painting the main body in yellow and in a weird burst of curiousity i mixed yellow with a silver to see if it would give a metallic finish. And with a tidy up of the base and a matt coat the big giant head is done. took a lot longer than i thought he would (damn those teeth) but really pleased with how he came out, looking forward to wtching him murderously rage across the tabletop!
