About the Project

I found a bunch of Middle Earth Orcs in my parents attic, I plan to add them to my Mordor side of the Battle of Pelennor Fields box.

The skin on these orcs is a base of Ratskin  flesh (GW), washed with athonian camoshade  (GW), then drybrushed with Ratskin flesh, then drybrushed again with Bestigor flesh (GW).

I’ve broken them all up into batches of skin colour. If you look at the orcs in the movies they’ve got a whole range of colour variation in the skin and I wanted to reflect this.

The skin on these orcs was done by painting a layer of Canvas (Vallejo panzer aces), washed with athonian camoshade  (GW), the drybrushed with Canvas, then drybrushed again with Rakarth Flesh (GW).

Let's get them built

If I’m going to paint them then I better get them assembled.  I have to say it does feel a bit sacrilegious to open the box given how long they’ve been in it, but toys were meant to be played with.

There's a lot of empty space on these old sprues. There's a lot of empty space on these old sprues.
Clipping everything out.Clipping everything out.
And now they're all built. And now they're all built.

That’s them built, which didn’t take me that long, a lot of them were single piece. Now I’m off to tidy the kitchen and if it’s still sunny later I might prime them.

I thought I’d show you what I’m adding to.  I wrote this article on my personal blog last year showcasing my Mordor army from the Battle of Pelennor Fields box.

So I found these in my parents attic

As the title says I found these in my parents attic. The orc warriors are still in their original cellophane, I’ve no idea when I bought them, but the price tag says £15, and it’s been a hell of a long time since they were that price.  I’ve also found an orc captain, a banner bearer, an old metal version of Guritz, Gorbag and 5 mordor uruk hai.  So the goal of this project is to finish this lot.  Should be doable.  I’ve got some Morgul knights and ring wraiths kicking about somewhere, so if I finish this lot in the time scale I might move on to them.  I make no promises though, I’m classed as a critical worker so I’m technically only on lock down in the evenings and weekends.
