About the Project

This will be a place to show my, slow but steady, progress on building my Frostgrave & Ghost Archipelago terrain, along with the figures I am collecting and painting to use with it. It is all used by myself and my friends, both at home and at my local gaming group that I run, Welsh Weyr Gaming Group, from South Wales, UK. http://www.welshweyr.co.uk/ The terrain is a mixture of 3D printed, bought and scratch built, while the figures will be a selection of official Frostgrave minis, 3D printed minis and a lot of random ones I have collected over the last 40 years! I have an extensive collection that REALLY needs painting! Most of the terrain will be painted with cheap emulsion and craft paint, with details added with acrylic. Figures painted with a selection of acrylic paints but primarily Army Painter and Vallejo. A note here that I am painting for regular gaming use and I have a lot to paint, so don’t come here for pro painting tips to win completions! My painting is to what I think of as a reasonable standard to get things on the table! I will try and keep this updated, but I have other games I play regularly too, so my time will be split between them all, although I will hopefully start more projects to follow these other systems too :)

Here are a couple of examples of the beginnings of my painted figure collection, I currently use the light colour undercoat / basic colour coat / wash or dip coat / varnish for protection! Method, I find it gives table top acceptable results at a reasonable time scale. With so many figures for so many systems and a whole heap of terrain to make/paint (the joys of running a gaming group!), I just don’t have the time to paint them to a better standard! Luckily I have no intention of entering any painting completions any time soon 😉

These are official Frostgrave figures from North Star Military Figures – http://www.northstarfigures.com/ in case anyone is interested 🙂

These are the early stages of our Frostgrave terrain, a few years ago, when we started out, using a selection of terrain from assorted sources, very little painted but you can see the beginnings of my 3D printed terrain collection. The idea is to build up a collection of 3D printed squares, 12” x 12”, with assorted terrain on them that can be swapped about to alter the layout each game for the ruins of Felstad, while the 3D printed dungeon terrain can be used for the underground areas. Most of my 3D printed files come from Fat Dragon Games – http://www.fatdragongames.com/fdgfiles/ they do some awesome Kick-starters that are always very well-funded, and I recommend checking them out for both 3D printed files and Paper craft sets.
