About the Project

I have been in the hobby for at least 20 years. And I do tons of small and big projects. Painting warbands, boardgames but also bigger armies. Age and a more hectic life has limited hobby time somewhat. Each year I do tend to focus on one big project that keeps going on and on in parallel with other projects. Last year was striving for a massive Skaven horde painted to table top standards. This time I'm tackling the Night Lords. After Void 1.1. introducing me to miniatures wargaming, Warhammer 40K has been my big love since I was very young. I have read tons of novels and among all the lore and fluff a few factions stand out. Above all... the Chaos Space Marines and in particular the Iron Warriors, Alpha Legion, Black Legion and...Night Lords! I adore the Night Lords novels. Lord of the Night, Aaron Demski-Bowden's Night Lord novels and Red Tithe. I had been preparing last year by collecting shieldpads, helmets and bits for my project + some 2nd hand stuff. I had given away most of my 40K stuff to friends after a move. Now that i'm settled i've been trying to rebuild a good basis for a new Warhammer 40K Force. The focus on being fluffy, a lot though not extreme kitbashing + tabletop quality kitbashing. I want to go for a dark look, frequent bits of skinned trophies, skulls and an edge of 'we loot a lot of equipment' without going overboard and have them look more like Space Marines than veterans of the Long War. Having started I have finished the first wave of my project. Though I will return for retouches and adding lightning effects on some of them as time progresses. The first aim is to put out a good basis TT quality then tweak/finetune. It will also be the first time I try my hand at drilling gun barrels! Now let us see where I get throughout 2020... "In Midnight Clad, Ave Dominus Nox!!!"

Not much but some progress.
Some painting on vehicles and termies. Not done but a good baseline there.
Also kitbashed some Chaos Bikers. I went for melee weapon and dakka.

Some kitbashing and prepwork on old stuff and a 2nd hand rhino...

First tabletop quality painted fellows.
I will need to return later on for:

  1. Retouches
  2. Possible banner symbol(s)
  3. Lightning effects on some of them.

But I like the effect they give on the table top so far!

The Dark Vengeance Chosen are my favourite CSM models.
I wish I could get my hands on some more but their prices can skyrocket on ebay.
I did manage to pick up a few sets and with mild kitbashing make them unique.
Veterans of the Long War indeed! The Dark Vengeance Chosen should be the baseline for the Old legion marines!

I managed to pick up a handful of Chaos Terminators which I just applied some Termie Night Lord shoulderpads to.
The Atrementar are a recurring theme in books and lore so I had to make a few of these guys. But I doubt i’ll be fielding them a lot.
Thematically it’s fun to have some around as a bodyguard of whatever Termie Lord I end up making.
