About the Project
In this project I will adapt a Warhammer Fantasy High Elf army for use as a Highborn Elf army in The 9th Age: Fantasy Battles. And I will further expand the army.

ROOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAR !!!
Let’s start this project with a bang: my first elf comes with a dragon.
While painting it I encountered a few obstacles:
- I bought this dragon second hand. It was already primed black and partially painted. I painted on top of it. This leads to rather thick layers of paint on the model here and there.
- Normal metallic paint doesn’t look good on large surfaces. I bought silver paint from Vallejos Metal Color Airbrush Colors. This paint does work over large surfaces and is an overall better quality of metallic paints.
Magnetising the army
Storage and transportation of my army was a problem I never got solved in my Warhammer Fantasy days. After studying several options, I went for magnetising the entire army.
Movement trays
Boxes
Now I needed boxes to store and transport my elves (and other 9th Age armies). I bought these very cheap ones: they are 15 cm high. This is high enough for spearman, battle standard bearers, knights who hold their lance upright and monsters. Even a High Elf dragon fits in the box.
Now my existing army is ready for The 9th Age. The next step is to add new units.
Adapting the army to The 9th Age
Since The 9th Age was designed for use with the miniatures of Warhammer Fantasy, few changes were necessary.
The army books of The 9th Age contain the base size for each miniature. This meant a few models had to be rebased.
Eagles
Bolt throwers
Artillery (all artillery for all armies: bolt throwers, catapults, cannons,…) must be based on round 60mm bases. Crewmen are no longer part of the game. The can be added to the base of the artillery piece for decoration or can be left out altogether.
Since I just removed the round bases from the eagles who happen to be 60mm, I simply glued the bolt throwers to these bases. Easiest rebasing operation ever. ?
Movement trays
I bought a lot of movement trays from Warbase.co.uk, including movement trays for skirmishers. In Warhammer Fantasy skirmishers didn’t use movement trays. In The 9th Age they do use special movement trays to keep the miniatures at the correct distance from each other.
