Nathaniel Garro - Finished
Silver Armor
Using multiple thin coats apply Citadel Iron Hands Steel. I used about three coats.
Then apply a wash of 50/50 Citadel Lahmian Medium and Citadel Nuln Oil.
Then do a second wash of the above mixture but focus on the recesses.
On the sword and belt apply a wash of Citadel Drakenhof Nightshade.
Highlight the edges with Citadel Ironbreaker. You may need two coats of this to be effective before applying an edge highlight of Stormhost Silver.
Gold Trim
Using multiple thin coats apply Citadel Retributor Armor. It helps if the same areas were coated with the Citadel Ironhands Steel when painting the rest of the armor.
Wash the gold trim with 50/50 mixture of Citadel Lahmian Medium and Citadel Agrax Earthshade.
Highlight the edges with Citadel Liberator Gold and then Citadel Stormhost Silver.
Leather Pouches and Cloak
Using multiple thin coats apply Citadel Dryad Bark. I used about three coats.
Wash the leather with Citadel Nuln Oil before layering back up with Citadel Dryad Bark leaving the wash in the recesses.
Use a 50/50 mixture of Citadel Dryad Bark and Citadel Gorthor Brown to layer up the leather before highlighting with Citadel Gorthor Brown.
Skin
I kept the skin simple using Citadel Bugman’s Glow before using a wash of Citadel Reikland Fleshshade.
I carefully picked out the raised areas with Citadel Bugman’s Glow followed by a 50/50 mixture of Citadel Bugman’s Glow and Citadel Cadian Fleshtone.
Finally highlight the most prominent details with Citadel Cadian Fleshtone.
Nathaniel Garro - Painting the Base
Just before the Christmas holiday I decided to spoil myself and pick up Nathaniel Garro and utilize my Warhammer TV voucher.
The Rocks
Using multiple thin coats apply Citadel Steel Legion Drab. I used about three to four coats and still had to apply it in some spot areas.
Then apply a heavy coat of Citadel Agrax Earthshade thinned with a little water but try to use as much pure wash as possible. Allow it to pool in some areas but not others. This will cause it to look as natural as possible.
Then use a heavy coat of drybrushing on Citadel Steel Legion Drab all over.
Apply a lighter coat of Citadel Karak Stone with drybrushing.
Finally drybrush on Citadel Screaming Skull focusing on the edges of the rocks.
Steel Beams
Base the beams with Citadel Leadbelcher and then wash with Citadel Agrax Earthshade.
Pick out the edges of the beams with a chunky highlight of Citadel Ironbreaker. Highlighting again but thinner with Citadel Stormhost silver.
Then dilute Citadel Troll Slayer Orange so it has the consistency of a wash and paint it into the crevices allowing it to build up so that it looks like rust.
Demonic Skin
Paint the skin with Citadel Bugman’s Glow before washing with a 1:1 mix of Citadel Reikland Fleshshade and Citadel Lahmian Medium.
Highlight the skin with Citadel Cadian Fleshtone leaving the previous coat in the recesses.
Highlight again with Citadel Kislev Flesh.
Finally use a 1:2 mix of Citadel Athonian Camoshade and Citadel Lamian Medium in random splotches to make the skin look unhealthy.
Word Bearer Armor
Base the armor with Citadel Word Bearers Red.
Wash the recesses of the armor with Citadel Nuln Oil.
Clean up the overspill of the wash with Citadel Word Bearers Red before highlighting with Citadel Wazdakka Red.
Use an edge highlight of Citadel Squig Orange.
For the silver bits base them with Citadel Leadbelcher before washing with Citadel Nuln Oil and highlighting with Citadel Runefang Steel.
For the black armor base with Citadel Corvus Black and wash with Citadel Nuln Oil before highlighting with Citadel Eshin Grey.
Ultramarines Helmet Armor
Paint the helmet with Citadel Maccrage Blue.
Wash the recesses of the helmet with Citadel Nuln Oil and then clean up with Citadel Maccrage Blue.
Highlight the armor with Citadel Calgar Blue.
Assembling the Lion
After much debate over which character to purchase next I finally settled on Lion El’Johnson as he is so regal and is a great character in the novels.
Starting Abaddon and Loken
After finishing Alexis Polux and Calas Typhon it was time to choose my next project. I decided after some time that it would be Abaddon and Loken.
The recent releases of the paints of Lupercal Green and Sons of Horus Green helped drive this decision. I have always loved the rich green of the the Sons of Horus/Luna Wolves but had no obvious way of achieving it without some heavy mixing.
So far I based the Dirt and Rocks with a 50/50 mix of Citadel Rhinox Hide and Citadel Dryad Bark. The bones were covered with Citadel Zandri Dust. The grey stone started with a 2-1 mixture of Mechanicus Citadel Standard Grey and Citadel Dryad Bark. However I am leaning towards upping this to a 3-1 mixture as I want it to be more grey.
As for Loken’s armor it used a base coat of Citadel Lupercal Green and then a recess wash of Citadel Nuln Oil followed by a highlight of Citadel Sons of Horus Green.
Almost finished with Alexis Polux!
I was able to complete everything but the black armor and black cloth. I was thinking about using some mixtures using Eshin Grey but found that my pot of paint had dried out since I had last used it.
Starting Alexis Polux, Captain of the Imperial Fists
I recently dived into painting Alexis Polux, the Crimson Fist captain of the Imperial Fists as part of my Spring Cleaning/pandemic extra hobby time.
Calas Tyhpon, First Captain of the Death Guard
Finished painting Calas Typhon as part of the Spring Cleaning 2020 challenge. It took me a few years to revisit him but I finally did and finished him this past weekend.
