About the Project

Vanguard, the skirmish version of Kings of War that released not all that long ago. I got the kickstarter set, and have at last gotten around to starting to build and paint some of the models.

So here I will gather the threads and present the warbands, otherwise to be found in my blog The Mountains of Minis

The Objective and Scenery bits

The set of scatter scenery and objective markers that came with the Kings of War Vanguard kickstarter delivery is the first to get some paint. For some reason I need to have these kinds of items painted first, or else they will probably not get painted at all (here is looking at you, Dungeon Saga Furniture!)

38 bits in all, counting that giant burned marshmallow on the unlit beacon there.

…that is removable. For the before and after part of the game scenarios.

Hope is lit!

Objective markers. including Princess Dragonbait there. Literally objective-fied. At least she looks like she is still alive, the male one looks dead, crushed under his horse. I put a 30mm base under the princess as she was a bit unstable.

Some larger scatter bits for vengeful barbarians to hide behind.

Some smaller scatter bits for smaller, pint-sized barbarians to hide behind.

The walls have a strange vertical pattern to the stones. I suspect this actually might be some kind of print lines…not that it matters, they look good anyhow.

The hedge had a horrendous mold-slippage gap along the top, so I chose to glue flock to it instead of just painting the texture. That one should have been stopped in QC at the factory.

Being PVC, some of these bits were bent out of shape when I got them. Some quick hot water then an ice cold bath straightened those muthas out.

The bits are also sold under the “Mantic Terrain Crate” label as parts of several different sets.
