About the Project

In this project I'm going to work on forces for SAGA. I'm going to start in Age of Magic but I might drift into the historical versions too.

For my fourth point I’ve painted my behemoth; Paul. Paul is an important part of my character’s backstory at Empire, she’s my pet war bear after all.  Yes Paul is a girl, if you want to know the story you’ll have to come to Empire and ask me.

The first unit of warriors for my larp inspired warband are done. My house colours are dark blue and white.  These guys represent the yeofolk of the house.

I will come back to my undead to add more. I wouldn’t mind adding some creatures, cavalry and archers. As well as adding in some of the other warlord, herosion and monster variants.

I’ll also need a terrain piece.  But for now I’ll make do with the mausoleum my other half painted.

While I’m waiting for all the flock to fully dry (I use foam flock, it can take a while to dry) I thought I’d make a start on my next warband. This time I’m going Great Kingdoms.  I’m make a miniature version of my military unit, which is my personal resource at Empire LRP (the larp I go to).

This is my warlord who is representing my character, Earl Bertrand de Loup, and his squire Guy. They minis are from Footsore Miniatures, they were the model of the month last month. Also shown is my behemoth, Paul the war bear. The bear is from Atlantis Miniatures. This is my warlord who is representing my character, Earl Bertrand de Loup, and his squire Guy. Starting basing

What I’ve done here is applied some texture paint, in this case Tamiya soil effect dark earth, and painted the edge brown.  Next stage will be flocking, more on that once I’ve done it.

A note on texture paints for basing. For smaller projects like this I go with the stuff that you can buy in a pot.  Just for convenience. But for terrain or big multi bases like the kind I use for Kings of War, I like to mix my own. Super easy to do. Mix polyfiller/spackle with sand and cheap acrylic paint (I use brown). Then apply it to your bases/terrain. It drys rock hard and takes a drybrush well.

I’m back from Empire.  I have begun washing the mud out my kit and painted these guys.

I just need to varnish these guys and then the flockening can begin.

Work begins on a sorcerer and a black knight. Work begins on a sorcerer and a black knight.

This will probably be my last entry until next week. I’m off larping in a couple of days and won’t be able to do any hobby.

Going forth into next week I’m going to start basing the warband. After that it’ll be work on the next force, a wood elf warband I’m working on for my other half in secret.

I found another skelebob. I’ve tarted him up to look like the rest. Now I have a full 4 points of warriors.

So I finished my scourge. I also learned a valuable lesson, if I build another one of these then I should paint it in sub assemblies. Anyway here’s big squawky.

Skelebobs

Here’s some skeletons I rebased last year. I’m going to mainly leave them as is, except I’m going to mix up the colours of the shields and cloth to make them look less uniform. I might do them in the colours of various Noble Houses from the LARP I go to.

I’ve started painting point number 5.  A nice big undead monster in the form of a scourge.  I figure a big mobile beastie will work nicely with the wall of bodies I’ve got going.

I’m calling my warlord done, I just need to varnish him and do the base. He still needs a name. The bodyguards are called Dave and Joe.

On a side note I got my tent halfway to the door this morning before the rain started.
