About the Project
I’m finally getting around to painting th investigators for Mansions of Madness. The minis themselves are of low to middling quality—it is Fantasy Flight after all. A number of them look like late stage syphilitics with no nose. However, the game is, from everything I hear, great so I’m doing what I can to bring the sculpts to life.

Getting stuck in
I’d already started some lazy batch work before I started this project. I always zenithal new minis that arrive—nothing fancy, just a coat of rattle can of black and then one of rattle can white from on top. 
This is one of the more egregiously pancaked and no-nose minis.

I’ve found three Vallejo flesh color bottles that reliably give me human looking skin:
- base coat: Base Flesh 74.004
- first highlight: Natural Flesh 74.006
- second highlight: mix of Natural Flesh and Highlight Flesh 74.008
- final highlight: Highlight Flesh 74.008 (use very sparingly to make the face pop)
Crap quick picture of my weekend accomplishment. A quick flat lacquer, cut them off their bases and stuck them on clear. Basing
Time to chop off the bases. The terrain tiles are just too nice and too varied not to go with clear here. 
I’ve found just taking flush cutters and chopping the bases around the feet to work best. 
Then I take a sharp knife and trim off the remainder. 
Then I use an Emory board to make sure what remains is flat. 
I tried a “non-hazing” adhesive but, used in moderation, simple cyaonacrylate super glue seems to work best. Finishing Up
Another batch ready to varnish/lacquer. I forgot to mention that this is necessary before basing if you want your clear bases to stay clear. I’ve found that these artist palettes are perfect for priming and sealing minis. Just blue tack & go. Fully reusable.
