Priming and first coat of paint
So when I bought this kit I also had the opportunity to hear from some pro on how to paint MDF. The short version is: use a primer with quick evaporating solvents so that the MDF doesn’t start to swell.
My choice: cheap black car paint. Two coats of black and after that one coat of grey car paint for some ground works.
I’m already quite happy with the results and I’m starting to think to just keep it that way. Your thoughts?
The second half
With confidence from the first half I went along and punched out all parts, sanded them and assembly was a relaxing exercise in “finding the right amount of PVA so that nothing oozes out the sides”. There is definitely something to be said in favour of straight lines and edges when building 😉
And thus I finished building (notice the Speederbike on top, that thing is big!)
Next up: priming. Oooooh boy… I hope that will go well.
The first half
Since this is my first MDF build (not counting the tool for my hotwire foamcutter) I went along slowly. Especially since a friend of mine warned me that Micro Art Studio MDF kits where a tight fit and he had to sand down much.
But not this. the pieces fit like glove and only very tiny connections to the board from which you punch them out had to be sanded. It was modelbuilders heaven. Note that this mainly applies to the thicker MDF for the actual building. There are two sheets of 1mm MDF for “decorations” that are a bit more fragile but it wasn’t a hassle either.
So here is the first half
The beginning
I had seen the Imperial Depot when Micro Art Studio released it and was in love. But there were two problems. At the time it was 50€ and I don’t have space for that thing.
Then came Hamburg Tactica 2019 and with it came 20% discount. And another 20% because our club ordered it. No shipping because I would collect it at Tactica in Hamburg. And space…. it’ll fit… somehow… it must.
So it begins…
