About the Project

Since the release of the RPG in the 90's I have been a real SLA fan boy and when I discovered the miniatures for the CS1 miniatures game I went all in. I have played quite a few beta games with a friend and it is a lovely smart little skirmish game. Unfortunately it seemed to die a death after the Kickstarter (No politics or judgements of what went on in this post please.) Consequently I very sadly packed my stuff away. Now that the game has been rescued and is being packed and shipped as we speak by Word Forge Games and Nightfall. I have got my models out to complete in preperation of the new stuff arising.

After much delay I have returned to my SLA Industries project (will be re-opening that project. I am painting up all the pre-general characters from the quickstart rules. I then have the protagonists to paint. I also need to finish my Shivers and Carrien so I can play CS1 game. I have been distracted with real life and not getting much painting done recently but am determined to re focus.

1569799380224-1761929865I have converted a few of these to represent “Blistering Rain” the  Ops team in the QS rules, only the two models at either end are as bought.

I have given the Stormer (Green Armour) a pistol from a Necromunda sprue to replace the second chuckle fist that original model had. He was also given a sheathed knife from the same source.

The Neophron ( the bird guy in grey armour) is one of the new races in the 2nd edition. I used a Shiver body but added the head from a demi bird model by Lion Tower Miniatures. I also added some more pouches and a shoulder mounted camera from the bits box.

The female Op (blue and orange armour) had a head from Statuesque Miniatures and a sword shopping out original weapon.

I am really pleased now that the whole thing has been undercoated as the building to my eyes looks like a building and not like a collection of plastic squares. I need to touch up a couple of areas where white is still showing through, and then I can start drybrushing and adding detail.I am really pleased now that the whole thing has been undercoated as the building to my eyes looks like a building and not like a collection of plastic squares. I am hoping to do some more today, upto the undercoating stage. But currently unable to start due to attack of arthritis in one hand, hopefully will recover over the day so I am able to continue.

I will be buying more Mantic building packs when I can afford them. Hipefully mid April. Will try to collect at SALUTE. I will need one each of the ruined and non ruined scifi terrain, 1 large pack if the Walking Dead terrain, and one of the industrial terrain. I then plan to get some of the Pardulon terrain now produced by Crooked Dice, with these I plan to build on to aome of the ruins to produce some Cannibal’s domiciles.

These are initially going on to a printed mat, but will hopefully be getting some of the Secret Weapon ruined city tiles for my Birthday in April.

Finally I will get and build some more scatter terrain

I hope to finish constructing and undercoating this piece as proof of concept (really pleased with it so far, but looking forward seeing it undercoated as this will bring all the disparate elements together. Then hopefully will be in a good headspace to xontibue painring the miniatures there are so many to do. ?

Sorry I have not updated for a while been lackibg motivation (see this weeks XLBS)

Aa was not in mood for painting thought I would build a Mantic building from some of the bits that I got with the Kickstarter.

I had in mind that I wantwd a building with a walkway connecting it to another building.

The basic building. I do not like how they look so modular and wanted to try and make it look like a building from my vision of CS1 (see later post with background of CS1).The basic building. I thought I should add some background to the CS1 miniatures game. I will start of by quoting the blurb on the back of the SLA Industries RPG

“On Mort the rain never stops. This is the black jewel in the rotten crown of the World of Progess, where serial Murder, empty style, corporate treachery and primetime violence are top career options.

The heart of SLA Industries, Mr Slayer’s office building dominates SLA corporate HQ, set in the gleaming splendour of the district known as Central. Only SLA’s corporate employees and Operatives can be found here. Elsewhere, criminal gangs, maniacs and nervous civillians scuttle through the filthy, labyrinthine streets of Downtown and the revolting spaces beneath. Outside the city walls lurk the hellish Cannibal Sectors, terrifying areas of devastation packed with deadly inhabitants.

(It is in the largest and most notorious of these, Cannibal Sector 1 that the CS1 miniature game takes place)

For you, the Operative, it’s just like the adverts. You’re a hero, a media darling, saving the world and living the golden life  of hedonism and fame. But that means following Mr Slayer’s Big Picture and oh, what a picture it is. Life is so “pleasant” for most people that SLA has employed you as part of it’s special troubleshooting forces. There are millions of you for Mort City alone, elite agents trusted to make sure that everything runs smoothly, and the Company isn’t… embarrassed.

The capital of SLA Industries is resplendant in its decaying glory, a planet where a struggle to survive is the only way of living. Life is cheap here, but knowledge will cost you more than you can imagine.

Guns kill, but so does the truth”

The RPG is very dark and run well can be quite horrific and very entertaining….

Mr Slayer is in charge of a large corporation, SLA Industries. Previously the galaxy had been engulfed in the Corporate Wars. Seemingly out of nowhere appeared a tall dark man and his company they initially sold the best available weapons to all the warring corporations, later developing biogenetic mercenaries whom he hirrd out to these corporations. At a preset moment in time all the weapon systems failed and the mercenaries turned on their employers, wiping out all the other corporations. Only three alien races where saved, the Ebons, Shaktars and Wraithen.

SLA Industries was now the predominate corporation in the galaxy selling every commodity and luxury to the populace. The populace are kept in place by a constant stream of media propoganda most popular of which are the tv shows featuring Operatives, Contract killers and insurgent corporations and other creatures in reality TV combat. Operatives are followed on their operations by camera drones and surveilance cameras and these are turned into various shows. As the viewing public prefer to watch brutal melee combats their is a fairly prohibitive tax on bullets to encourage Operatives to get up close and personal. The more eccentric, brutal, flambouyant and media savvy you are the more likely you are to recieve lucrative sponsorship deals.

I emphasize the importance of the media and these filmed conflicts as they have a relevance to some of the game mechanics.

Most of Morts civillians live in poverty in Downtown. Here Criminal Gangs, Serial Killers and occasional incursions of the inhabitants from the neighbouring Cannibal Sectors dominate life.

Downtown and the rest of the city is protected from the Cannibal Sectors by a huge fortified wall manned by Shivers (the primary security forces).

Cannibal Sectors are areas of the city that have fallen into ruin and decay and been overcome by various factions opposed to SLA Industries.

I will cover the Cannibal Sectors and specifically CS1 the location of the miniatures game in my next post.

I was off today and my SLA CS1 Kickstarter was booked to arrive today.

So I had a day dedicated to SLA. It started off with playing Gothic Punk CD’s from my youth and it was my love of the Goth scene in the 80’s and 90’s that drew me in when I first the art in the SLA rulesbooks.

I then spent morning adding more base colours to my Carrien and eventually the parcel arrived.

There are a few other figures that I will not be building yet as they will be converted. I will be building the runts tomorrow evening.

Then I will return to completing my first two factions Carrien and Shivers.

I will be posting a bit of background to each of the factions and characters as I paint them.

I will start background tomorrow with a general background to the world and the conflicts in CS1.
