USING THE COSTUME DESIGNS TO PAINT MY STAR WARS LEGION
Recommendations: 449
About the Project
When I started collecting Star Wars Legion miniatures I approached it in the same way I do historical collections. I used a very nice book of the costumes used in the films as a guide for my painting. Whats interesting is how the colours of some costumes look different on film then they do in real life and some of the details that you can easily miss. I've two starwars projects so I'm cancelling this one.

Clone Trooper Specialists
For the clone trooper specialists I looked at ARC trooper colour schemes and captain markings for the officer. Plenty of examples on line for clone rank colour schemes. I didn’t glue the heads on so I can swap them around. I wasn’t happy with contrast paints on this set and will try again.
The droids i'm looking for
Stormtrooper specialists
Using Contrast Paints
B1 Battle Droids
Shore Troopers
Probably the most colorful variant of stormtrooper for the Empire and a welcome painting change. I used a bone colour for the armour although my reference material does say that Shore troopers are known to have various colour schemes so you could go wild with camouflage. According to the fluff the blue colour on the chest indicates an officer so that makes him a nice target.
BOSSK
Bossk comes with two different sets of arms which slot in with out glue. His flight suit is a funny yellow and a nice bright scheme. His figure is more dynamic that the costume from the film.
Occupier Tank
I loved painting this model as it’s so simple to paint and a great slab of a vehicle. Being a simple Empire grey it was a quick paint job. I spent more time on the container units that add a splash of colour to the tank. The tank commander has a dark patch on his armour plates denoting his rank.
Land Speeder
Lukes Speeder has a pattern on the bonnet but as this isn’t Lukes I decided not to put it on my model as it’s not noticeable in the film. The model also has a gun slapped on the front so will get in the way. I stuck to a brown colour scheme and I copied the pattern on the engine jets.
IMPERIAL OFFICER
The Black and olive green uniforms of imperial officer. I like the Olive green but I painted Veers that colour so I went for the black for this officer. I dug up the rank badges for the Empire which could come in handy if I get another officer.
PRUNE FACE
Prune face comes as part of the rebel commando kit although in the movies you’d miss him if you blink. You spot this alien in the briefing scene in Return of the Jedi but I dont recall seeing him running around Endor but i presume he’s about. His cloak is a different colour to the other commandos going for a brown Khaki shade rather than green.
REBEL COMMANDOS
The commandos we see on Endor wear the usual Rebel Khaki but with a dash of green on ponchos and long coats. This was easy to paint because you dont have to be too careful with it.
REBEL OFFICER
I was looking forward to getting my hands on some generic commanders for this game. Rogue One was the inspiration for this paint scheme and they use the same rank insignia’s that were developed by the old RPG back in the day.
SCOUT TROOPERS
Scout troopers have to be my favourite looking troopers. I think it’s the helmet design, I wish we had seen troops with the front face plate open. They made use of this feature in the rebels series to show the hero in disguise with out taking his helmet off every five minutes, the front just flips up. I liked the sniper miniatures clearly inspired by the video games.
