Paintstation

About the Project
Space is often limited and for that I made me a paintstation I can carry around the house. Since I've been asked about it some time I tried to recreate my building process with SketchUp. !!! Warning: it an approximation and depending on what size your paint water glass and paint bottles have you need to adjust your measurements. !!!

Foundations
A DIN A3 cutting mat will be placed on the paintstation so I need some headroom for the paint and water holder.
The mat is 45x30cm so the first 4mm sheet of plywood is 45x40cm. On the top end a second 45x10cm sheet is glued.
Structural support
To support the upper sheet I glued 0,5×0,5x2cm in the corner of the 45x10cm sheet. Be sure to have them straight and dried before continuing!
Top layer
On these supports I’ve glued a second 45x10cm sheet, let it dry and then made the holes for paints, brushes and the painting mug. Make sure to drill recesses into the lower 45x10cm sheet so that the paintbottles sit tight. Depending on the tools you have you might want to drill holes into the 45x10cm sheets before assembly.
USE YOUR OWN MEASUREMENTS!
Supports on side and back
As a final step add sheets on the sides and the back. This makes the board more sturdy. If working with heavy models you might want to use thicker sheets of plywood as the 45x40cm base!
Optional lighting
If you, like me, need more light because of…. advanced age, you may add a LED lamp. See my finished paintstation on how I did that.
I also made a smaller version (based on a DIN A4 cutting mat) for my daughter.
I hope this encourages some of you to get your own paintstation done. It is really easy and plywood usually isn’t that expensive. Happy hobbying!
