Over the hills & far away~

Next up on the list of terrain is a couple of hills – not the most exciting, but they do evoke an old- school feel as you dont see them that often anymore (well they’re not L-shaped ruins afterall 😉)

I’ve used 6mm MDF for the base and flat tops, joined with strips of wood using wood-glue & recessed nails to help keep the MDF from warping over time.

The slopes of the hills are shaped with corrugated cardboard cut into triangles. I’d usually use polystyrene for this, but cardboard is what I had available. I’d say it’s a little more time-consuming, but a lot less messy than polystyrene!

I’ve also used some pieces of bark from fallen trees as areas of bare rock to add some interest. The cardboard is then covered in plaster, which I sanded down once dry.

The hills are painted over in house-paint then flocked. After that it’s just a matter of painting the rocks and adding a little shrubbery 🙂
