Grand Army of Altdof
End of Year Report for 2024 and Plans For Next Year
It’s been an annoying time for me. The injury from my fall healed quickly, though it was not fun, and then I’d thought I’d be able to get more work done on my models.
NOPE.
I just unfortunately lost steam, badly, on the whole thing.
But then I somehow ended up making more progress in expanding the size of the army rather than focusing on painting anything with the purchase of a single set of Wargames Atlantic Landsknecht Ogres, two boxes of Wargames Atlantic Conquistadors, the pre-ordering of their Conquistador Cavalry (I went for the light cavalry), and also getting a set of Fireforge Games Northern Folk Rabble, along with an Empire Steam Tank, some Wizards and Flagellants. Oh, and a Giant.
So my thinking was thus:
The main Altdorf army, made up of professional soldiers, will be backed by a section of Estalian and Tilean mercenaries that are in Altdorf, along with folk that have come in from the Reikland countryside for protection, being a mix of Free Company militia and Flagellants.
My current crop of models stands at:
1 Empire General on horse
3 Empire captains on foot
5 Empire Wizards
1 Empire Witch Hunter
10 Empire Greatswords (Carroburg Greatswords)
5 Empire Pistoliers
20 Empire Halberdiers backed by a 10 man detachment of Swordsmen and a 10 man detachment of Crossbowmen
10 Empire Crossbowmen
10 Empire Handgunners
12 Empire Flagellants
1 Empire Great Cannon
28 Empire Free Company Militia
8 Empire Knights
3 Empire Demigryph Knights
For the Mercenaries, it is:
1 Estalian captain on foot
21 Estalian spearmen/pikemen, backed by a 10 man detachment of Swordsmen and a 10 man detachment of Crossbowmen
9 Empire Ogres, armed in various fashions
24 Marksmen of Miragliano
1 Giant
With the rerelease of the Empire models right around the corner, I have been doing some thinking on what I should add to my army.
More artillery is definitely a thing, I also need more cavalry, but I also do need more ranged infantry as well. Though living in the place that I currently live in will definitely limit the number of models I can have. I should knuckle down and get the rest of what I have painted, for sure, since they’re all just existing in that horrible limbo of being half-painted. Luckily, I only have a few just grey figures right now. Everything is undercoated to some degree, just the Demigryph Knights proper (as in just the knights) are still bare plastic.
