The idea came to me one afternoon and in a few hours I finished off this little campaign of sorts. The premise was pretty straightforward, instead of dungeon crawling to defeat the big monster what if we were just tagging along? Then I saw the excellent new Gallia Pilgrims from Highlands Miniatures and thought that Bretonnian Grail Pilgrims would be perfect.

The Knight is doing all the hard stuff, he’s killing the big beasties and slaying the bad guy but we can still jump into the dungeon and have fun.

I had three goals.

  1. Make some super basic rules to let people experience the story
  2. Make the campaign playable and finish-able no matter what.
  3. Find a way to encourage roleplaying the more unsavoury parts of being a peasant.

I suppose it’s up to you guys how well I did but that was my thinking. I’m not really a dungeon gamer, I don’t want to make some complex ruleset and this little campaign would be much better played in a roleplaying and beer and pretzels style. All the rules fit on a double sided A4 sheet of paper in my notes.

I also printed one of their foot Knights to be Sir Bernard. I went with a BLue and Yellow colour scheme and wanted the Pilgrims to be close to his colours but a bit more dull and appropriate for a peasant. I went with a light brown instead of yellow and dark blue instead of lighter blue. I went with a light brown instead of yellow and dark blue instead of lighter blue.
