I’m sure many of you are fans, or at least familiar to Critical Role, a fantastic and very popular web series featuring a bunch of (mostly) voice actors playing Dungeons & Dragons, with  Matthew Mercer as Dungeon Master. While most of the shows were recorded, some episodes were made live, with audience, and absolute bonkers.

With the growing popularity, the web series expanded to a bunch of merchandise and even a cartoon!

The characters played in the show were made into little miniatures that weird people like us love to paint! These were produced in boxed sets by Steamforged Games a while back: one box for  Vox Machina (first season), and one box for the Mighty Nein (second season).

I believe they now produce other sets, some prepainted, but I dont have those. I do have, however, both the original sets, and Dungeonalia 2023 sounded like the perfect excuse to get back hobbying and paint the little dudes.

… and so I did. In this article I will be showcasing my version of the Vox Machina characters ! While I will try to stay close enough to the official colours and such, I will be taking some liberties.

The miniatures themselves are good, not great. The plastic used is a bit on the soft side, and while the sculpts are pretty great, the details on the castings lack a bit the “sharpness” that other materials can give. They are nice enough, though.

All of them are one single piece with the base tab included, and they come in a very nice rigid box with a clear plastic window, carefully acomodated in the respective slot in a plastic try.

The Vox Machina set featured here comes with 8 miniatures:

Pike, Keyleth, Vex’ahlia, Scanlan, Grog, Vax’ildan, Percy and Trincket.
