This third mini is to be one of my main characters for Rangers of Shadow Deep. A mix of the and new techniques I hoped this would form the blue print for how I paint most models of NCO level and above.

The armour and leather is done in the old style, base, wash and highlight. The gems are simple metallics with no shading. The green trim was base coated and then lined in with a shade/ink. The sword I am really pleased despite snapping when I dropped the model and it dug into the carpet.

The skin was done traditionally as well with Bronzed flesh form my 90s GW stash and then Reikland Fleshshade as a wash. I am unsure whether I prefer that to the Contrast flesh colours. I cannot decide if this way is less patchy or not.

Everything else was done by contrast paints. I did try to use inks to make green and blue flames on the bow but I was being overly ambitious and it looked awful. Ultimately Aethermatic Blue Contrast paint worked far better.

Given that this only took a week and half with some failed experimentation this is definitely the route I will go down for characters going forward. I still cannot believe what I can now produce both terrain and model wise and my fear of failure moments are now greatly reduced especially now I am getting almost everything on display rather than sealed in boxes.

As before I am scanning the painting steps from my hobby notebook rather than list them on the post. It leaves me more time in the words of modern greats to “Slay the Grey” and “PAINT MORE MINIS!!!!!”

Oh and square green bases are the only truly great bases!
