The Great Grey Massacre.
A Test of Skill.
So I have done a lot of painting over recent years and watched a lot of tutorials and read a lot of books on painting models. I felt like my skills have improved, my speed and my confidence are all greater than they have ever been. This project had a vague aim of playing Rangers of Shadow Deep with fully painted models and terrain. That does involve a lot of character models and I had until recently avoided painting them as I felt I could not do them justice. However characters are mostly all I have left to paint for that aim. Whilst I have not shown them yet (I am unsure whether to start a new blog for them) I have painted the Aliens Another Glorious Day in the Corp human models including the Power loader. They turned out really well as did the odd Samurai and models such as Genghis from Giants in Miniature. SO I really needed to just get stuck in and see what I could do. It also seemed a good idea to compare the speed paint techniques to the traditional ones and a hybrid of the two.
As a control I painted the Blind Eltharion model with Contrast/Instant colours. I did do the metallics in the traditional fashion base, wash and highlight. this was accomplished in an evening. Cons were very old models sometimes lack sharp enough detail for the Contrast paints and to work properly but they are fast it is fine from a tabletop view.
