Into the Wicky Wicky Wa Wa
Lawmen
I put these together from the Great Escape Games plastic Gunfighters kit mainly to represent the Lawmen faction in Deadman’s Hand but also for use in any other Western style game.
Everything was primed in IDF Israeli Sand Grey (Vallejo surface primer), then given a Payne’s Grey wash followed by a drybrush of Pale Sand (Vallejo Model Color). I made the Payne’s Grey wash darker by adding a bit more ink to it but I should have matt varnished after that because the model became slightly hydrophobic.
After the under painting the next steps were mainly using transparent colours. (When I used the Vallejo Xpress paints I sometimes used it to glaze and sometimes used it more heavily like a speedpaint).
The black clothes were all Liquitex Black Ink mixed with glaze medium.
The brown wood and leather were Copper Brown (Vallejo Xpress).
Any of the light grey e.g. on the riflemen were Templar White (Vallejo Express).
The lighter browns e.g. the chaps were Dwarf Skin (Vallejo Express).
Plague Green (Vallejo Xpress) was used on a couple of the neckerchiefs.
Light blues were Space Grey (Vallejo Xpress).
Sweat stains were done using Payne’s Grey wash and Army Painter Strong Tone.
The white shirts were Ivory (Vallejo model color) roughly put on leaving some of the under painting as shadows followed by a glaze of Ivory in some of the areas to smooth it out.
Hair
Brown hair: Chocolate Brown (Vallejo Model Color) then Soft Tone wash (Army painter) followed by a highlight of Chocolate Brown mixed with Pale Sand (Vallejo Model Color).
Grey hair: Ivory (Vallejo Model Color) then Strong Tone wash (Army Painter).
White: Ivory highlight
Skin
Shotgun guy: Tan Earth (Vallejo Model Air) mixed with Luftwaffe Uniform WWII (Vallejo Model Color) and Ice Yellow (Vallejo Model Color). Highlighted with different mixtures of Pale Flesh (Vallejo Game Color) ands Ice Yellow.
Everyone else: Dark Flesh Tone (Vallejo Game Color) then increasing lighter layers of Tan Earth mixed with Ice Yellow.
Metals
Everything was varnished before the metallics were painted.
Silvers: Black base followed by Gun Metal (Vallejo Model Color) mixed with tiny amount of Panzer Dark Grey (Vallejo Model Color) and Airbrush Thinner; Highlight with the same mix and Plate Mail Metal (Army Painter); Strong Tone wash; Final highlight of Plate Mail Metal mixed with Airbrush Thinner.
Brass: Brassy Brass (Vallejo Game Color) mixed with tiny amount of Mahogany Brown (Vallejo Game Color) and Airbrush Thinner; Strong Tone wash; Highlight by adding Plate Mail Metal.
