BINGO! Avalon map (1000 points)

For the final box on my bingo grid I wanted to do something different and special. In recent years I’ve played Tainted Grail on and off, and I really like the setting. Each campaign is set on the same island, Avalon, but in different time periods. For a while know I’ve had the idea to try and recreate the map as a diorama/terrain piece.

I started with a shallow wooden tray about 30cm by 30cm from the bridal range at hobbycraft. I then printed a map of Avalon from the game and used it as a template to tear layers of cork sheet into the different elevations of the island. I then applied the key structures of the map. These were a combination of 3D prints scaled down to 10% of size, a Games Workshop treetop, a piece of natural sponge, parts sculpted from milliput, and some swords from my bits box. For houses I used matchsticks cut up into short lengths. I also used a rotary tool to make the moat, valley, lake and river depressions.I then applied the key structures of the map. Everything was undercoated brown then painted up with a basic approach: base colour, wash, then drybrush.Everything was undercoated brown then painted up with a basic approach: base colour, wash, then drybrush.
I painted all the grass areas with PVA then applied a green flock. After leaving it 24 hours to dry I gently tapped off the excess then used a hoover to ensure I removed any remaining loose flock from the sea areas.I painted all the grass areas with PVA then applied a green flock. The masking tape was carefully removed and then woodland scenics' realistic water was slowly poured over the sea, river, lake and moat. The masking tape was carefully removed and then woodland scenics' realistic water was slowly poured over the sea, river, lake and moat.
After giving the resin 24 hours to cure, the piece was finished by using PVA glue to apply artificial snow on the North West of the map. This represents the Wyrdness that blankets cursed Tuathan. After giving the resin 24 hours to cure, the piece was finished by using PVA glue to apply artificial snow on the North West of the map.
