“Über die Brücke” (A Spring Cleaning Challenge - 30 years late!) with Zebraoutrider
In memory of a legend…
I’ve stalled on many projects over the last six weeks and the motivation has waned until I found inspiration when I found and touched up an old miniature that represented a legendary character from my Dungeon and Dragons childhood…
Sadly my father passed away suddenly at the end of August. He was 84 and had a full life and although not feeling particularly well, his death was unexpected and it fell to me to find him only a day after I’d last seen him.
He always encouraged my creative hobbies and although I didn’t follow him into model railways, he was always impressed and delighted with my fantasy and miniatures painting and the accolades I achieved. He even would play the odd game if Dungeons and Dragons when I was a child – although I don’t think he took it too serious as he named his dwarven fighter “Aloysius Ponsonby III”… but the emphasis was to have fun because there are plenty of other times in life when you have to be serious. In fact I didn’t realise until now that “Aloysius” derives from the Germanic to mean “famous warrior”.
He was my mentor, my teacher, my confidant, my encyclopaedia. He was my Dad.
He was so pleased that I won the Spring Clean Challenge 2022 for best idea… and so it seems apt that I officially complete this project by including my Dad’s actual D&D famous fighter in the scene.
Goodbye Dad. I’ll always love you.
Thank you for everything.
