Elessar's Tiny Flames of War
The Concept
The Idea
The idea is to take Flames of War and replace the miniatures with 6mm ones while keeping the footprint the same. Infantry Squads become Platoons, Individual Tanks become Tank Troops and Companies become Battalion or Brigades.
Great idea, @elessar2590, clicking UP the command scale while clicking DOWN the miniature scale.
I guess all those games of Panzer Leader started to rub off on you, eh? 😛 😛 😛
The prints look amazing so far. Expect to recieve my order soon. 😀 😀 😀
Thanks Jim. There’s absolutely a Panzer Leader influence, there’s something so satifying about having an entire Brigade on the table and that’s just not going to happen with Flames of War, the easiest thing to get people to play, unless it gets tiny.
While it’s not totally the same as what you do with designing the counters I’m 99% sure if someone gave me 3-4 days notice I could download, scale, print, paint and base two giant armies in time for a game.
Must be perfect for gamers in Australia with the increase in shipping to have access to 3D printing
It’s already paid for itself in 6mm tanks. Overseas shipping has always been insane for us, normally 20-25% of the order unless you order a lot so most games live or die on local retailers, local in this case being Australia or New Zealand which could actually be the distance from Moscow to Madrid or New York City to Los Angeles.
The STL’s are the free Bergman 1:200 WWII Vehicle STL’s that I’ve rescaled. What he didn’t have I’ve found for free on Cults 3D and Thingyverse.
Are they your own STL’s?
2022-09-27 Your project has been visited by the unofficial Hobby Hangout. Huzza!
Interesting stuff, I like it! Will be following this project to see how it develops.
Re. the base with the Churchill tanks, I’m not sure that Fireflys were included in Churchill squadrons. Churchills were infantry tanks and attached to the infantry divisions who then had their own towed anti tank guns. The fireflys were issued into armoured squadrons (mainly Shermans and Cromwells). Later into the war, some of the armoured divisions organised the fireflys (and later Challengers) into dedicated squadrons, so you could represent a whole base with specialised tanks.
At least I think that’s how the British organised their armour….
whats your reasoning behind it?
1. It’s the unit in the FoW Book Armoured Fist for the Desert British.
2. 8th Army used them at 2nd El Alamein.
The question Makes sense now post xlbs. Right?
Luckily I saw XLBS first, got to keep ahead of you lot with your Irish tricks.
