So my current table is… servicable. Firstly I have no idea where it came from as it was second hand and very cheap at the time and whilst you can play a limited number of board games on it for most tabletop wargames its both too small and too unstable.

1450mm x 840mm (57.09 x 33.07 in)

In the past to make do we’ve either played on some folding table in the garage (which is only suitable during certain times of the year…. When our garage has room in it, its current state is…. questionable. Either that or you could put a board or something over the table to extend it but given the table is extremely unstable its still only ever been a temporary measure.

So I want what most of us want my very own custom game table, with a removable top and a vault on the inside I can cover over. So its a general table except for when its not, its always been an ideal thing but in Australia atleast you’ll struggle to find one for sale for less than $2000 and thats the modest ones. I have build furniture before, not quite heirloom quality but this project is something I want to try and stretch myself with, a test of what I can achieve and hopefully in time something I can be proud of.

In my next post I’m going to touch on some of the tables and designs I have taken my inspiration from, give you access to the kinds of video’s I have watched (several times over) before we actually start talking about the actual design I have so far.

I started writing this project on 28/05/2022 but don’t actually intend on making it available to the public until the work has begun so, plan is to start this within the month, this is the test to see how well my planning comes together.
