When creating renditions of the OTT/BoW crew I did say all were present and correct! But I was wrong and I apologise because I’d forgotten the tank master himself @johnlyons. Now I couldn’t really stick a Leman Russ alongside these steampunk styled British Colonial soldiers but out of my pile of shame emerged a solution in the form of a crazy armoured tank bike from Zinge Industries. What’s more I discovered that the 17th Cavalry Lancers (famous for the Charge of the Light Brigade in the Crimean War) also provided mounted support in the Zulu war and so in this case, Lieutenant Lyons could ride into battle in the blue and white fatigues of that famous unit, not on a horse but on a steampunk tank!
‘Lieutenant Lyons’. Model chosen - Reaper Miniatures Deadland Noir Patent Scientist SKU 59041 sculpted by Bob Ridolfi.
‘The Cavalry Mount’. Model Chosen - Zinge Industries The Tank Bike (A7 Inspired) Product Code S-TBI01 designed by Gareth Watson. I opted for a brown pallet (Mournfang Brown) but wanted to get the red and white flag that would have been on the 17th Cavalry lance flags and the skull and cross bones represented on the bike’s armour. I freehand painted a Union Jack flag on the bonnet and used a GW 40K Space Marine Vehicle Aquila transfer. The bike was ‘chipped’ with Chainmail and weathered with Vallejo Ochre and Brown Iron Oxide powders.
‘The Scenery’. Base chosen - 100mm round resin base obtained from the Wamp Store, but manufacturer and sculptor unknown. Originally I thought about using a Micro Art Studio rectangular 100mm x 50mm Ancients Base, but it just didn’t feel right and again out of my pile of shame emerged a 100mm scenic base of a shipwrecked flotsam, rocks and water. I could imagine Lieutenant Lyons scouting ahead for water supplies and coming across this oasis, only for his trusty four-legged companion to spot something lurking in the depths. The addition of the dog and tentacles provided the narrative to link the tank bike to the scene. A blended mix of Macragge Blue, Lothern Blue, Baharoth Blue and White Scar and topped by a thick coat of ‘ardcoat provided the choppy water effects while Zandri Dust and highlighting covered the rocks. Grass tufts from Serious Play links this base to the rest of the collection.
‘The loyal companion’. Model chosen - Dunkeldorf Miniatures Arnold’s Dog Jaeger SKU tbc sculpted by Sonny Bundgaard.
@johnlyons From one treadhead to another… how could I have left you out of this! Hope my rendition for you is fitting enough? ??
