(Star) Saga of a Deadzone
Star Saga...or Mazon labs?
About 18 months ago I came across a bargain copy of Star Saga, which is a sci-fi dungeon crawler that I have had an eye on for ages. At the time I was also having some thoughts about trying Deadzone 2nd edition out as I kept hearing it was a good refinement on the 1st edition which I basically demoed but never got around to buying into.
I had also heard that all of the minis in Star Saga now had rules for Deadzone and that the enemy minions & bosses formed a playable Mazon Labs list. Great, I thought, this is an easy entry point and a complete board game too!
So naturally I bought it, read the rules then put it in a cupboard because it was 2020 and I had no prospect of actually getting it to a table.
But now Deadzone 3rd edition is out, I have met some local players and tournaments are coming back! Hell yeah, let’s paint this!
that’s nice … I think I’ve got Star Saga somewhere in my pile of opportunity.
I had totally forgotten that Mazon Labs was in there, which means I’ve got a potential 3rd army for Deadzone.
Star Saga is a really fun game in and of itself, but the fact that it (and indeed all of the expansions) comes with enough miniatures to also play a Deadzone faction makes it a really good purchase. The Star Saga miniatures aren’t the greatest, but they’re passable and respond quite well to speed painting methods.
I really like the character miniatures though. Despite some of the cast quality issues, they are such interesting characters
Oh yes Deadzone! The best game ever. You have chosen… wisely.
