Aurorainbags Dunkeldorf
The Kingpin of Dunkeldorf
The third kickstarter for Dunkeldorf is ongoing as I write this, and I’ve been gifted some of the amazing minies for this one. Now I’m a huge Dunkeldorf (and Kinggames) fan, but I truly think Nana and Nicki have outdone themselves this time. Every detail is cared for. Every figure having a ‘place’ in the universe. So great to see the people behind this moving from strength to strength.
I’ve been gifted with some of this kickstarters characters. And once again, they’ve been a pure joy to paint. From Sven’s facial expression, Lenny’s ‘casual’ pose, Barik’s amazing tummy to Mariks fierce smirk and Claudia’s beutiful crossbow. I’m in love <3 And not sure I can ever do these beautiful characters justice. But that does not diminish my joy of painting them 🙂
These are some nice minis and your choice of colours really makes the detail and the fun nature of them pop!
Cool stuff. Thanks for sharing them 🙂
Thank you so much. A lot of credit has to go to the sculpts themselves though. Such great figures to work with.
I think you do yourself a disservice, that’s some excellent detail work!
So nice to see such vibrant miniatures, most of my stuff starts off bright and gets progressively darker!
I shall keep checking in on this to see how it all comes along.
Thanks 🙂 If I paint for speed, that’s usually what happens to me as well. Base colour, wash and then highlights. But the highlights never go ‘high’ enough. When I paint for ‘quality’ I rarely use washes (not as they are intended anyway). I start with my darkest colour all over, and then layer up lighter and lighter colours on top. I find that adds a lot more vibrancy and saturation to the colours. Allthough in this case the pictures really don’t show that. My ‘big expensive camera phone’ has a tendency to ‘pixelate the colours. It’s not really what… Read more »
that’s some good advice re: not using washes.
I have a few Horus Hersey Primarch Models to start, and I might be tempted on one of them to give your approach a go.
I am happy for some of them to look “dirty” but I feel some should have a grander feel.
I basically am awful when it comes to taking pictures, so I suspect even if I had the best camera in the world my pictures would look terrible!
Some good advice here, much appreciated!
Good talk 🙂
It takes a lot longer, using layers and glazes instead of washes 🙂 But it does yield a better result. So for the ones you really want to make a presence on the table, it’s worth it I feel 🙂 About pictures I think it depends very much on the camera/phone you’re using. Lighting is key, but not ‘just’ from what you can add with actual lights. Although finding some daylight/led lamps is a good place to start. Just be aware they can quickly ‘over expose’ your minies. Many uses ‘lightboxes’, but I’m not really a fan of them, since… Read more »
you are too kind.
I may take you up on that offer as I have a couple of Artel W minis I am working on for my Night Lord project – would be nice to get some decent shots of those.
I have also been buying GW’s latest Vampire models and I would love to get some good pics of them.
Thank you!
