So, I decided that the “moss” didn’t look right.

In the interest of making this look better, I spread a thin layer of PVA over the tree trunks that I had painted green and sprinkled some “summer” green flock. This is a very bright green, but I had a plan!

The green flocks a little bright! The green flocks a little bright!

So, once the PVA had dried, I thinned some GW Devlan Mud (yep – I still have a little left!). I used this as it’s a little darker than Agrax. I had to be careful not to move the flock around, as the water re-activates the PVA. this is not ideal, but using PVA was my choice here!

Looking a little better...Looking a little better...

Once this had been allowed to dry thoroughly, I gave the whole lot a coat of satin lacquer (for protection). Once this was dry I hit them with Dullcoat to take the sheen off.

Overall I think the moss effect looks far better with the flock. I just have to hope these can take being handled for gaming!

Comments and critiques always welcome.

Great work! I’m following your project with interest, I backed the same KS.

Your moss is interesting, I would add some purple/violet washes in deepest shadows (here and there) and dry-brushed some yellow and light green in random places. If you have airbrush you might think about spaying same green you have on the flock to fade transition between moss and trunk a bit (and that would be best before any further washes/dry-brush).

I absolutely love this!

The difference between the two stages is outstanding. Looks like it’s been plucked from the depths of the woodland. Looking forward to what’s next! 🙂

I’ve been feeling the need to paint some trees and scenery, all I’ll be sure to try this with the PVA for texture, and let you know how it goes! You have inspired me!

Looking forward to seeing what’s next!
