Moving forward with my painting of the miniatures necessary to play ‘A Rattle of Bones’, I decided to tackle toe skeleton, available as a corpse and as an animated skeleton. I will use the same techniques to paint both and thus am including them below.

The skeleton is zenithal highlighted as usual, using black/grey/white, from a black base to a 60 degree angle with grey and a 90 degrees angle with white (top down) . The skeleton proper receives a GW Contrast Skeleton Horde layer. The skeleton is zenithal highlighted as usual, using black/grey/white, from a black base to a 60 degree angle with grey and a 90 degrees angle with white (top down) . As the base and skeleton will have rather warm tones, I chose to color the ragged clothes blue, using GW Caledor Sky.As the base and skeleton will have rather warm tones, I chose to color the ragged clothes blue, using GW Caledor Sky.
The base is painted GW Dryad Bark and then dry-brushed with two successive coats of GW Gorthor Brown (any medium brown will do) and a coat of GW Ushabti Bone. The base is painted GW Dryad Bark and then dry-brushed with two successive coats of GW Gorthor Brown (any medium brown will do) and a coat of GW Ushabti Bone.

Apply a coat of GW Agrax Earthshade to the chains (to dull the shine and make them appear dusty and rusty-ish) as well as to the belt and rags. Drybrush the skeleton with GW Ushabti Bones on the surfaces exposed to zenithal light.Apply a coat of GW Agrax Earthshade to the chains (to dull the shine and make them appear dusty and rusty-ish) as well as to the belt and rags. Highlight the hair with white and do a final drybrush on most exposed bone surface with GW Ushabti Bone.Highlight the hair with white and do a final drybrush on most exposed bone surface with GW Ushabti Bone.
After painted the circumference of the base black (or dark brown), the skeleton is ready for play. You may want to dot the two eye orbits with a white dot on the animated skeleton, followed by a dot of yellow, to emphasize its animated status. After painted the circumference of the base black (or dark brown), the skeleton is ready for play.
