Armies of Fantasy Warriors
It all started with these
With my first copy of the rpg Dragons and Demons, THE swedish fantasy rpg in the 80s and 90s, I got paper standees and two gridded gameboards. In 1990-91 Äventyrsspel started selling Grenadier’s fantasy miniatures at a pace of releasing 48 new miniatures about every 3 months. I was hooked, but my pocket money limited the amount I could afford. The grenadier miniatures were my first fantasy miniatures.
This project is a mix of my very first fantasy miniatures and newly acquired old Grenadier fantasy miniatures and new miniatures of the old sculpts (from Em4, Forlorn Hope and Mirliton). It is also return to the swedish rpg-world of Ereb Altor which is the setting where I imagine my armies. The Orc armies control by the Witchmaster of the Black Tower and the Dwarfs from a Dwarven Hold in the Aidne Mountains.
Just south of the Aidne Mountains lies Zorakin, a land of knights and chivalry. I have started painting on one of my first knights. He will most probably be from one of the knightly orders protecting Zorakin from the orcs in the Aidne Mountains and in the forest that dominates one of the country’s two peninsulas.
They even did put out some of the book for Dragons and Demons in Danish – I should know as we still have an ongoing campaign with players on 3 continents over Roll20
I also think I have a copy Fantasy Warriors store in by my folks.
Nice blue on the knight
Excellent, nice to hear that Dragons and Demons is still going strong. There has been a revival in Sweden in the last years with a new edition and also a spinn-off in Heroes of the Copper Ocean (Kopparhavets hjältar). I’ve seen some of the danish edition books. Do you happen to know how many books came out and what edition? I hope you’re having exciting adventures!
So glad you finally started this.Fantasy warriorsxwas our favourite fantasy game for many many years. Some very innovative rules in it that I think found there way into other popular fantasy rulesets.
Looking forward to seeing your progress
So am I, been looking forward to this for some time. I actually jumpstarted the project a bit early, so I’ll soon have 16 Orc spearmen to show. Got to get the basing done.
I never played the game, but have read the rules. As you say, there are some interesting mechanics. Im thinking I’ll do a post about the Fantasy Warriors rules, and also some of the other rules Im contemplating to use.
