Great choice, @fourtytwo – these ships saw lots of service with 3rd and 5th Fleets in the second half of the Pacific War, and of course long after the war as well.
Thanks, @oriskany. I read that the Baltimore-class was a very successful design. I was impressed by how little time it took from its conception to the first commission. The 2nd Naval Treaty prohibited the building of heavy cruisers in the interwar period, and once the treaty became obsolete with the start of WW2 in 1939, the U.S. Navy immediately had studies done on heavy cruisers, which resulted in the Baltimore-class.
