SD and I Plays: Death May Die
S1E2 - Round 1 - 6
Instead of a post pr round I’m gonna squish it all together a little and only go for the highlights. Most rounds kind just comprise of my investigators moving forward, punching cultists and picking up stuff. So that can be easily skipped.
Before diving in I should mention that Ahmed is suffering from Catatonia. So he has a tendency to just lay down whenever he gets too stressed. And Ian is Paranoid. Turned out both of these disabilities really came in handy during the game
The goal of this scenario is to claim 2 Tomes before the cultists summon forth he who dreams. But you cannot claim the tomes until you have found matching tokens, apparently hidden in the robes of the cultists. And they’re not willing to hand them over freely, so we’re running around killing them for loot. Are we the bad guys?
We had Star Spawn spawning in round 1 already. And Ian found the stash of Whisky, so he’s a happy chap right from the get go. Ahmed sees some horrible things quite quickly, and his Catatonia sets in in Round 1. Fast track to insanity there. But it does mean his Healing Prayer ability goes up.
Round 2 has Ian going down the insanity tracker, so his Vengeance Obsession skill also goes up by 1. Ahmed finds the bible, which apparently helps you being less stressed. Who would have thought?
Other than that, the Mythos cards seem to come up all benevolent for our heroes. Slightly suspicious. It’s around this point I realise I’ve misunderstood the rules for this scenario. Thought any 2 tokens would get me a tome, and not two matching tokens. Luckily my investigators hadn’t run off too far.
In round 3 a few more cultists are summoned. Which is good, cause we need them for their tokens. At this point I believe we have 3 tokens, but they’re all different. Ian finds The Mask of the Damned, which could be an Ancient Spirit companion, but it would cause him 1 sanity loss every turn, which is a bit hot for these guys already. So he spends all his stress to use it as a Burial mask instead.
Ahmed screams like a madman and runs directly into combat against a ghoul, whacking it with his brief case. It’s not quite as effective as he had hoped.
Round 4 and 5 sees Ahmed getting hold of a tome. So just one more to go, before they start showing Cthulhu just exactly what they’re made of. Squishy gooey parts. You’re made of squishy gooey parts Ahmed. Just saying.
Ian meets Jimmy the Grave Robber, who kindly agrees to join up, giving Ian lvl 1 marksman. Now this is really a helpful skill to have. And at this point I kinda feel everything going extremely well and smooth.
Round 6 has Star Spawn finally catching up to our heroes. And the nomming can begin. This triggers a loss in sanity for Ian and his Paranoia sets in. Ahmed being Ahmed starts pounding Star Spawn with his briefcase, and actually manages to down the big boi. How crazy is that.
On top of this he also finds The Shrine of Bones, taking the stress to keep the Incense. Which on a later turn will prohibit one cultist or monster to attack.
