A Steampunk Challenge
Hawk
Progress has been made on the hawk that sits on Jessica’s left arm. The guide book had different schemes at different places in the book so I decided to mix this one myself. I thought I’d go with a dark grey look, perhaps using a dark blue to bring the highlight. I started with Vallejo German Grey and then dryrbushed AP Necromancer Cloak and P3 Greatcoat Grey. At this point I wasn’t happy as the grey drybrushes had completely disappeared and I wasn’t getting anywhere. So a re-think was in order. One of the pictures in the book comes out with more of a brown tint that a blue tint so I decided to switch it round. Rather than repaint what I had done I decided to go wth a dark brown and use the German Grey base that I had. So I started with AP Oak Brown and then Vallejo Cam. Pale Brown. This has given enough brown on the wing that I am happy, I’m not sure the photograph below really shows it though.
The front edge of the wings has a gold strut system attached and I approached this the same way I did for the gold on the left arm. The Hawk also has a hood with lenses (see the scheme used below). The beak was painted in Monster Brown and then I lightened Monster Brown with P3 Menoth White Highlight. The photograph only shows the top.
