Sabotage and Destruction Unit Caliban
I work on speed painting method for the Shasvasti. Otherwise I strand no chances of painting Defiance, which I expect to receive somewhere late January.
Anyway, where I stand now is seen bellow. I spent around 4 hours on that one guy, which is unacceptable from speed painting point of view, however, the method scales up nicely. I think painting them in batches of 4 or 5 would be a good idea, and each such batch should close within 7-8 hours.
Next step would be introducing more oil paints I guess.
The recipe for now is:
- Black(ish) armour:
- Black primer,
- VMC Dark Grey over all parts of armour,
- Lighter grey drybrush (to pull all the edges (I cant see them otherwise),
- Points of light (where they look cool) with white ink (airbrushed),
- Edge highlight with white,
- Overall VGC Turquoise glaze,
- Redo points of ligt with white (on smaller area),
- Shadows and blacklining with black oil wash.
- Red skin-tight.
- solid layer of VMC Sunny Skin Tone,
- 2-3 layers of VGC Red Wash with glaze medium,
- A layer of previous mixture with ca. 20% addition of VMC Black Red,
- Add some (ca.10%) VGC Violet ink for final layer.
- Weapon.
- Solid layer of VGC Sombre Grey,
- White edge highlight here and there,
- Overall wash of VGC Black Wash with glaze medium and a drop of VGC Violet ink
- Head
- Overall layer of AP Bone,
- Stripes of VGC Green or Black Green inks meeting at the top of the head.
- Mouth apparatus – VGA Alien Purple, Highlights with VGA Squid Pink, shades with VGC Violet ink.
And that’s the result:
