Late Lockdown Warcry
Iron Golems
So, this is where it began – a five year old building an Iron Golem Warband. There were a few fiddly bits, but the instructions GW supplied are pretty good at laying out the steps.
A few steps later, you get these:
The painting so far:
I basecoated in grey, washed the models with Nuln Oil (GW), and then used my airbrush to zenithal with white (WC). I don’t know why, because I then airbrushed EVERY model in Pewter (WC)!
I then airbrushed most of the armour with transparent red (WC), layering three coats, giving each layer ample drying time. Finally I applied red ink over the armoured areas.
For the flesh I applied a flat layer of Ulthuan Grey (GW). I then gave the flesh a wash of Thraka Green (GW). Washed it again with Leviathan Purple (GW). and finally again with Ogryn flesh (GW).
I then went back and added a highlight in Ulthuan Grey and reapplied the washes. And then repeated adding a smaller highlight again, before a final wash.
The remaining metal was given a heavy drybrush of Mithril Silver (GW), washed with Nuln Oil (GW), and drybrushed lightly again with Mithril Silver (GW).
The gold was Burnished Gold (GW), washed with Chestnut Ink** (GW).I then drybrushed in Burnished Gold (GW), before giving a *really* light drybrush of Mithril Silver (GW).
For the bases, so far I’ve just added Agrellan Earth (GW). I’ll give them a drybrush of Terminatus stone before adding a few patches of flock – I’m not sure which yet, so I’ll update later.
There are a lot of little details I need to finish, so I need to get cracking.
**The Chestnut Ink is a REALLY old GW paint and I’m yet to find a decent replacement, so I dread the day this runs dry!
GW = Games Workshop
WC = Warcolours
Some severe close ups. Also some sideways pics – they embiggen without issue though!
It’s amazing how this makes the skin look really poorly blended. Maybe it’s just my poor eyesight making them look good on the table……
I’ve added a couple of Gerry and Lloyd shots, because why not!
