A Foray into Napoleonic Wargaming
First Infantry Brigade Completed
The Black Watch is my third finished infantry battalion, which is enough to form my first infantry brigade.
Having got one brigade completed, I’ve been planning what next to add to my Peninsula British collection. There’s two packages in the post bringing the next wave of miniatures.
The first is enough infantry for a second brigade, including a few more highlanders so I can paint the Gordon Highlanders, another line battalion and a light battalion. The second batch is some cavalry, namely a battalion of both hussars and light dragoons.
The final element to a rounded force is some artillery, and there’s already some Royal Horse Artillery awaiting assembly on my painting desk.
Really looking great, well worth all those weekender threads of “working on my Black Watch”! I love the way Napoleonic armies look on the table, nothing quite like it. Well done
Thanks very much. Napoleonic armies certainly have a great table presence. One brigade is really nothing in terms of having something vaguely representative of the era, but it is a nice landmark for my collection.
Great work. This project is really inspiring me to finish my French army for DBN. Thanks and keep up the great work.
Cheers. Lots to do yet, and at some future point I’ll get started on a few Frenchmen to line up against the British.
The British won’t stand a chance! Sorry, the truth hurts but someone had to break it to you!?
Just catching up with the project (hence all the comments) Fantastic stuff. Starting out some 28mm Napoleonics for Black Powder although really tempted to drop a couple of scales although may need to up my glasses. Is this pure 15mm or have you used some 18mm stuff from other ranges?
All 18mm stuff at the moment. I’ve used figures from across three different ranges – Campaign Game Miniatures, AB Miniatures (sold via Eureka Miniatures UK) and Xan (via Empress Miniatures). They just about match up size wise, although the Xan are a little more slender and a tad shorter. The AB are the most detailed, and also a bit more expensive. I currently favouring the Xan models as being a bit faster to paint due to a lower level of detail (although to be clear, they are still quite detailed!). However the ranges are a lot bigger for CMG and… Read more »
Cheers. Do you mix the ranges in a unit or keep them separate? Haven’t even started cleaning up my 28mm figures and looking at different scale, when will I learn 🙂 What rule set are you focusing on?
I’ve mixed a little in the more recent battalions. The 50th have an AB command, the rest are all Xan. The Gordon’s I’ve just posted have CMG flank companies, with the rest as Xan. If you look closely you can see the far left and right models being a bit taller and bulkier. I actually liked the mix as the elite flank companies were supposed to be comprised of bigger soldiers. However, once on the table, I doubt it will be noticed at all! Rules wise, I’m looking mainly at Over the Hills by Stand to Games. The big pain… Read more »
Cheers. Off to look at tiny figures and a rule set.
