I used the only undercoat I had on hand, GW Wraithbone, followed by a Black Wash which really helped me to see the detals and gave some shading.

Then I blocked out the colours (Painting them slightly brighter to compensate) followed by a Brown Wash which I then swapped for a Black Wash.

I’m definitely going to go for a Black undercoat next time the current one is too bright.

I’ll try to get a full unit done soon to see the mass unit effect

Epic and ambitious project @elessar2590 – I love seeing big numbers of smaller scale minis on a table. I agree with you and @torros, this is definitely the kind of thing where you’re looking for the massed effect of painting an ARMY, as opposed to individual figures. I’m not familiar with Altar of Freedom rules, played a little Johnny Reb in my day with a friend’s smaller scale minis (don’t remember what scale they were, probably 10-15mm) Great start and great work so far!
