Spring Cleaning DOOM!
The Marines
One of the first things I thought I should tackle is the painting of the Marines that you can play as in the game. Known only as Alpha, Brave, Gamma and Delta they are pretty neat all the same and armed with some well-known DOOM weapon.
I went for a technique which focused on washes and Contrast paints. The models were first undercoated in Wraith Bone before I applied a liberal coat of Apothecary White from the Contrast range.
This gives you a really nice blue/white look to the armour and means that you don’t have to worry about actually painting traditional white.
The next step was to dive in and work on the patterning for each of the troopers. I went with something simple and picked out some of the key elements of the models for the red, blue, green and yellow to match their character cards.
The weapons were then coloured to fit each of the characters. So, I went in with a bit of gunmetal for some of the weapons and pure black for others. The plasma rifle was the one gun that I did something different with and gave it a bone texture plus the glowing core.
I think the final result looks pretty sharp and works nicely for simple board game miniatures. I want them to pop and be recognisable on the tabletop and I think this achieved that.
Oh, and they also got a coating of Nuln Oil for good measure to help darken it all done and make it moody…I love Nuln Oil now.
