Beware the Jubjub Bird - Painting the Cockatrice

The paint job took around five hours non-stop (apart from paint drying). I’ve used a fair amount of washes and blending as well as dry-brush highlights. I opted for a brown rattlesnake pattern for the tail in the end but I think it’s close to the inspirational art work.

The base is built up with slate and polyfilla and the water pool is created again with blended techniques and multiple gloss varnish toppings. I added another Citadel Miniatures F5 Paladin, but as the stare of a Cockatrice can petrify a victim, I’ve painted him as if he was turning to stone.
