SoapDoDger's Aristeia!
First painted models.
I have started by painting the first three models with varying success. The plastic makes normal painting techniques not work. Like edge highlighting it’s like trying to paint a snake and the paint does not go where you would expect it.
I have also seen mould lines. I knew these were present but when trying to remove some it chews up the plastic so if I couldn’t get to it with a knife to cut it off it’s staying.
Needless to say I have found myself in a position again that I need to remember this is a board game. But feel free to criticise or comment as if they are not.
So that’s what’s been done so far. I am selecting the characters at random so next up is Gata. I am going to continue painting and hopefully finish the painting in the next week or so.
That means more to come.
Great work that I can see! hEXx3r has been one of my favorite figs since launch. I guess I lean towards her as she is Nomad and that’s my main Infinity Army. But expanding to others now as well.
I feel your pain when dealing with mould lines and plastic that does not take well to standard methods of shaping.
My comment when I sent it to my friend was “just painted a filthy nomad” cant win a game of infinity against them, think it’s just jealousy. I think I will need to try a few new thing to clean them up if I get the expansions, I will post anything that works apart from slicing them.
Excellent work. Maximus came out strikingly. I struggled with him. I’m a bit further along on this than you but way further behind (as in zero) on Infinity. I’m glad I decided to tackle Aristeia! first because, coming into wargaming from board gaming, the Aristeia! minis are quite good compared to many games. Now I have the Infinity minis to look forward to! If you want to see the CustomMeeple terrain/scenery for this in action I have one snap on my project blog ). I can take more if you’d like. I’m largely pleased with it–though it isn’t quite as… Read more »
I have liked your whole project. Especially your recient Valkyrie! Great work. I seen this and was thinking of going down the hex cube method. I am lucky enough to have a laser cutter so would probably make it. I also looked at the warsenals one but it hurts my head and I cant picture the multiple levels in real life without it affecting gameplay. Also cant get the star trek chess set out of my head… I do need to think about basing, thinking something along the lines of what you have but think I will have magnetized bases… Read more »
I’ve only gotten one game in so far. I quite enjoyed it. It’s far less smashy than I expected. Getting your characters into the scoring zones and moving/keeping others out is the name of the game so smashing others just for the hell of it will likely yield a loss. Of course, that’s only one play so what do I know? I look forward to seeing what you end up doing for your Hexadome. Maybe it will push me into acquiring one. Side note: I did put magnets into the CustomMeeple bases–they’re built to accommodate them. However, I wouldn’t think… Read more »
Great job! really good job! very loyal to the original concept.
Thank you! Possibly a bit too loyal I could be doing without the freehand!
