A bit of a basic rust tutorial
Hey everyone so bee up a couple of hours this bank holiday and been doing a bit of rust work on a couple of components on the Panzers.
Thought I would do some photos as a bit of a tutorial.
Colours and methods used are:
Ironbreaker layer
Nuln Oil wash
Ironbreaker highlight
Mig Jimenez acrylic color rust
Process:
A complete coating of Ironbreaker as the base.
Wash with Nuln Oil dragging the pooling away to the underside or shadowed areas but making sure any creases or cracks have enough to darken them.
Apply the Mig Jimenez rust in a blotchy method (dabbing the rust colour on covering large areas but leaving some silver showing through)
Next with a damp finger, not a wet one just wipe the area painted with still wet rust where you believe the light spot will be. This will remove most of the rust paint but leave some staining.
After this, you can go back in with a small brush with rust to apply small spots or speckling to balance out the silver area with the rusted area for a nice weathered look.
See below for the images of this process and happy hobbying.
I presume ironbreaker is a metallic colour?
Yes @torros it is a GW layer colour buddy, I would say a middle silver.
I’ve added an image of the items I used too
Thanks with GW paints you can really be sure if you go by the name alone.
I think the overall effect is really good
Thanks, buddy, I think for the time it takes it does work quite well too.
