Entry 5: Mistakes. I hate painting White

I broached on a mistake I mentioned I did in a previous post.

Picture 1:

The robes were basecoated with a bluey grey (GW’s The Fang base paint). From there I layered up (badly) with Administratum Grey (OOP but an equivalent to Ulthuan Grey or maybe Celestra Grey) and tried to work up by adding ceramite white. It was horrible.

In the end I used a mix of dawnstone and lahmia medium in two thin wash coats to take the edge off the white and provide crude shading and blending. I think it is the best I could do as salvage work without starting again from scratch.

I will update the highlights and layering tutorial on a future post, as it is a separate subject.

So yeah, this misguided, half thought-out robe ruined the rest of the model. So yeah, this misguided, half thought-out robe ruined the rest of the model.
Darker but better.Darker but better.
I much prefer it now. It is far from perfect but there is depth, and it looks dirty and used.I much prefer it now. It is far from perfect but there is depth, and it looks dirty and used.

I like it. Well done!

It’s very much like an idea I’ve had for a paint scheme.

Your tutoring will come in handy. ??
