75th Anniversary of Battle of Monte Cassino and Northern Italy (Army Build)
A Company of Churchills
The Cricket World Cup has been distracting me a lot in the last couple of weeks and progress has not been as quick as I would have wanted. Besides, I’ve been finding painting 15 near identical tanks increasingly a chore but I think I’ve now broken the back of the task.
I’ve now painted on the Army Painter Dip and left it to dry. I’ve started wiping the dip off of the flat surfaces before it settles to stop it pooling and creating tide marks. Once dry, I gave everything a heavy dry brush of Reflective Green and again picked out the tools and other details. I’ve then dry brushed the tracks with gunmetal.
The next steps will be to apply a matt varnish and then get to work with the chipping and mud. But here’s where we are at the moment.
I prefer the red ball cricket and haven’t paid much attention to the World Cup. Looking forward to seeing more progress. That is a lot of Churchills to get through!
@robert Did you everor are you still playing for Armagh
Sorry didn’t twig this was a project. Forgive the hijack
I also prefer the red ball version but the World Cup has kept me engaged, especially after today’s semi final! It’s been sating my cricket appetite while I get over a back injury that’s been stopping me playing. Did manage to join in the club training session this evening though bowling my slow paced dibbly dobblies 🙂 That has meant no progress on the tanks today though.
@redvers I will watch the final, or at least have it on the radio if I am painting toy soldiers! Good luck getting back into the cricket. I haven’t bowled my boomerang like away swingers in over 20 years – i claimed I was medium pace but there were spinners faster than me! To keep this somewhat Churchhill related, it was my great uncle who was a tank driver (I think) in the NIH who taught me how to bowl and I still remember him telling me off for giving my wicket away in under 15s match many, many moons… Read more »
I’ve finally calmed down and got over the final now. Great advert for white ball cricket and I’m looking forward to the ashes! Need to get these tanks finished before that starts.
Your uncle sounds like he has a somewhat Boycott-esque approach to cricket!
It was a crazy game but I really enjoyed it. I’ve always liked Boycott and his corridor of uncertainty.
You’ll be painting with sticks of rhubarb next
Aye, and your grandmother could have painted it. 🙂
Great work, @redvers – I love the regimental and brigade markings on the tanks! One thing British tanks always have over American tanks on the table top.
Thanks @oriskany. These markings I had to make myself as I couldn’t find the transfers in 15mm anywhere. I’ve got them in 28mm as I have 28mm Churchill to build at some point – that’s in the queue of things to be built and painted. But I agree, having the markings really sets the British tanks apart.
